All of them re-watches for various reasons. Liked them lots. #letterboxdfriday ##lastfourwatched
ONE MONTH FROM TODAY! I'll be hosting a screening of the greatest concert film of all time, STOP MAKING SENSE. Let's pack the place! Wednesday, 9/2 @ 7pm at Elk Grove Cinema. I'll be doing a discussion afterwards. Come on out! www.classiccinemas.com/f/stop-makin...
Last night, I crossed off two more blind spots. We went to see Eric Rohmer's MY NIGHT AT MAUD'S at the Music Box, which felt like the first two "Before" movies rolled into one film (in a good way). Then, I stayed up and finally watched Jean Schlesingré's HONKY TONK FREEWAY. Movies are awesome.
Some Christmas movie podcast prep, followed by a recent Warner Archive blu-ray release that had two shorts from 1934. Sometimes that's the best part of a WA disc. I want a whole disc of f'ed up shorts from the 30s with a "play all" feature. My evening would be set. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
This is just in the last two days. Screwball Hitchcock, unbearable kiss-ass doc, Michael Keaton double feature after talking about the awful "Jack Frost" on our podcast. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
I’m seeing other physical media nerds like myself doing a Pride flag with their collection, so why not? (Finding a good violet one is pretty tough)
#letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched #letterboxd Christmas Movies Actually podcast prep, weekly Hitchcock project (good week!), and catching up with two from this year. Not too shabby.
Weekly Hitchcock project, podcast prep, limited series completion, doc about a subject I love. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday #filmsky
A movie couple who would definitely have a podcast. (Looney Tunes gophers, not Chip n' Dale)
Thanks to the Criterion sale, my wife and I just enjoyed a random double feature of "The Princess Bride" and "Altered States." Just when I thought these movies couldn't possibly have anything in common (save their decade), I am proven wrong. Okay, and maybe both are fairy tales, but that's it!
Still Friday here in Chicago. I had a crappy day and needed cheering up. First-time watch of Gay Divorcee. What joy! The toons on the blu-ray were also a hoot. I finished listening to Cameron Crowe's memoir "The Uncool," so of course... Anyway, they all did the trick. #letterboxd #lastfourwatched
Weird week. Podcast prep, Hitchcock project, getting back to weeknight screenings. #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday
Last four. Hitchcock being bored, James Whale being tormented and Loop De Loop being "kind, considerate and charming." #lastfourwatched #letterboxdfriday
Everything here is for a project of some sort. "The Lodger" is part of a year-long Hitchcock viewing project. I hosted a screening of "Blue Velvet" with a talk-back. A Sundance short. "Jonas Brothers" for latest episode of Christmas Movies Actually pod. Busy! Fun! #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday
Most child actors don't pull off playing 'the bully' character. Most of the time, you can see the overcoached acting, because in real life, the kid is probably super-nice. This one in THE PLAGUE, though! Damn, he nailed it. He brought back so many bad jr-high moments for me. Subtle and terrifying.
I started the year with some U2. I ended it with a lot of U2 (every year, we play a live version of New Year's Day at midnight and then, eventually, we get sucked into watching the whole thing).
Every year, some variation of this, without fail, thanks to my wife and I watching cartoons every weekend during breakfast, courtesy of #WarnerArchive.
So, the end of "Stranger Things" is supposed to take place on November 6, 1987. Kerry had an idea to follow up the finale with a movie that came out on that date. I love this idea! Well, I did until I saw the choices. Okay, well... Made In Heaven, Death Wish 4 and Steel Dawn, it is. Happy new year?
Criminy, it really is Friday, innit. Three of these are first-time watches. We watched Christmas Vacation as a filler before ST5 became available. #letterboxdFriday #lastfourwatched
Someone already took Code Pere Noel ("stay a little Jesus," everyone), so I'll say The Ref (1994), followed closely by Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker, starring Mickey Rooney.
First time I ever went alphabetical with my top 10 list on @ebertvoices.bsky.social. Just didn't feel strongly enough about ranking them this time. I also still have a few more to see and will finalize in early January (via Movie Madness pod). Nice to have Little Prayer poster next to mine, though.
Just watched an awards screener with the captions on where variations on this description appeared 15-20 times, at least, and now this is the first phrase that comes to mind when thinking of awards season. (btw, I liked the movie)
These four posters lined up like this represents my current state of mind. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
