Colne Valley Regional Park
@colnevalley
Countryside on your doorstep
Yesterday was a bad day for the Colne Valley Regional Park: Bucks Council approved TWO motorway service areas within its boundaries. No consideration was given to the joint impact of these significantly large schemes, or of other neighbouring developments in #chalfontstpeter and #iver.
Day organised by Matt Chapman @gwksouth.bsky.social Rivers Team, in #Denham. If you’re interested in #volunteering at future #community events, please get in touch Rivers.team@groundwork.org.uk #InvasiveSpecies #LoveYourLocalRiver
If left unchecked, this invasive plant spreads rapidly completely taking over sections of river, outcompeting our native aquatic and marginal plants and driving wildlife population declines. It’s a big task but even a small group can make a really big difference in just one day.
Who wants to spend their precious weekend removing floating pennywort from a heavily infested section of the River Colne? Fortunately, this willing bunch of #volunteers do: they got stuck in on Saturday 18th July and did just that.
Why Not Take a Walk at #Wraysbury and Ankwerwycke? A circular walk steeped in history, with beautiful views of local lakes, wildlife and the Thames. 2 pubs en route: The George & The Perseverance #Windsor #Staines. details and map here www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/wp-content/u...
Great to hold our Board meeting this week in #Harmondsworth Great Barn. The architectural gem of the Colne Valley Regional Park dates back to 1426: a mediaeval building described by Sir John Betjeman as 'the Cathedral of Middlesex'.
Teams worked around the lake and in the River Colne #litterpicking and removing floating pennywort, a problematic invasive species. There was a lot less litter than in previous sessions, proof of the incredible efforts and dedication of volunteers who maintain this area in their free time.
Another fantastic day of action at #LittleBritainLake, #Uxbridge We were delighted to be joined by #volunteers from London Borough of Hillingdon, Colne Valley Park, and Coca-Cola Europacific Partners for a busy day making a real difference for nature and our local community.
If you’re in #Uxbridge, take a stroll to #Denham Country Park and Denham Deep Lock up the Grand Union Canal from The Swan & Bottle. It doesn’t take long, and you’ll be a world away from the hustle and bustle of town. www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/locations/de... @visitlondon.bsky.social #London
The Ivers Summer Fete & Picnic is on Saturday 18th July at Iver Village Rec. This is now a local tradition and the big event that everyone is looking forward to – Adults, kids, seniors, juniors, teenagers, families, dogs, even the birds and the trees. www.ivra.org.uk/event/summer...
Thanks to a hard morning’s work by these #volunteers from @CocaColaEP, the vegetation overhanging this footpath has been cut back and it has been litter picked. The footpath runs from #Uxbridge to #Denham Country Park near the A40. Morning organised by @Colne_Valley Green Team @gwksouth.bsky.social
#volunteers wanted to do some clearing up at Little Britain Lake #Uxbridge @Hillingdon at 10am on Tuesday 21st July. Bring your gloves & enthusiasm for #conservation tasks including litter picking. #GiveBackToNature. No experience needed. Book here: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/litter-bli...
NHS to reward people who walk 30 minutes a day. What a great idea! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... So what you’ll be needing now is ideas for local walks. You’re welcome 😊 www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/things-to-do... #freshair #exercise #GetWalking #GetOutside @england.nhs.uk
Talk by John Whitby about the Colne Valley Regional Park: its challenges and opportunities, at Hillingdon Museum and Archives at 11am on Friday 10th July. www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/events/colne...

A day of inspiring ideas, great willingness and expertise, showing love for our precious landscape and a desire to work together to protect and improve it into the future. Huge thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and the players, for their support in making this event possible
Presentations led by Michelle Jones and Stewart Pomeroy from Groundwork South. Many thanks to Kate Unsworth from Kuiper Compagnons for her inspiring talk on a Vision for the Colne Valley. And to Kevin & Claire from Resources for Change for their talk on evaluation.
Still buzzing from the Colne Connections Conference last Thursday at #Denham Grove Hotel. Thank you to the 90 delegates who gave up their valuable time to come and engage and support so enthusiastically. Many interesting ideas shared.
#London is overheating. A lesson in the vital role of the #GreenBelt to cool, refresh and enable the capital to breathe. We must not allow the Colne Valley Regional Park - London's Green Lung to be eaten away by developers www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/green-belt-w... #LCAW2026 @metecoban92.bsky.social
OBJECT TODAY! ANOTHER day, another data centre plan. This one is at Denham, 18m high, filling two large fields and is next to houses, the River Misbourne, footpaths and roads. All we ever ask for is some proper joined-up thinking:
Lovely to have the cows back on Misbourne Meadow in #Denham. Cows munching the grass encourages wildflower growth. Learn more about conservation grazing here www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/conservation... @nationallottery.bsky.social
One of the most extraordinary survivals in the Colne Valley Regional Park. As our picture shows, this ancient landscape is now hemmed in on all sides by creeping urbanisation, but it retains a unique atmosphere that gives no hint of this on the ground. See the oldest ant hills known in the UK.
Great to have #Harefield Tenants & Residents Association officially signed up as members of the Colne Valley Park. We hugely value the support of all our member organisations. www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/who-champion...
Huge thanks to Emilie and her team, as well as Matt and his team! We look forward to working together again soon. Canal & River Trust, Buckinghamshire Council, Heathrow Community Trust #litterpicking #cleanupbritain #partnershipworking
We are finally close to seeing the end of the litter problem on this stretch. We all share the same goal: we want our canal, footpaths, and local green spaces to be free of litter so the community can enjoy all the benefits these spaces bring.
Another successful Litter Blitz last week on the Grand Union Canal in #Denham! The Canal & River Trust brought their team & boat which we filled. We are hugely grateful for Bucks Council’s Litter Enforcement Team’s help tackling this issue.
#DYK the Colne Valley Regional Park has over 200km of river and canals with over 60 lakes supporting an amazing variety of wildlife. Taking a walk at this time of year is likely to feature cygnets, goslings, mandarin ducklings or some other young birdlife www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/things-to-do...
A walk on a riverbank or towpath right now is likely to feature cygnets, goslings, mandarin ducklings or some other young birdlife. Go On! #GetOutside, enjoy your local countryside and see what you can spot. #summer www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/things-to-do... @CanalRiverTrust
We have six objectives: • To maintain and enhance the landscape • To safeguard the countryside • To conserve and enhance bio-diversity • To provide opportunities for countryside recreation • To achieve a vibrant and sustainable rural economy www.colnevalleypark.org.uk/whats-special/
