Veu’s bedroom walls were covered in hooks and hangers: harnesses and cuffs, racks of paddles and canes made from different types and thicknesses of material. The bed’s heavy headboard and frame were studded with exposed hardpoints. Its thick mattress could have accommodated four people with ease, luxurious black sheets tangled and unmade.

A wave of senseless, seething jealousy struck him in the center of his chest, leaving an awful, aching hollowness as it receded. Anger welled to fill the void, surging towards the easiest target: this presumptuous, insufferable man, carelessly surrounding himself with beautiful things.

Just like the flutters around the shoulder, the glow he‘d surely imagined around eir eyes and mouth.
