🌀 The Art Nouveau staircase in the Small Mabeyn of Yıldız Palace (1900–1901). It is attributed to Raimondo d’Aronco, architect to the Ottoman court during the reign of Abdulhamid II. The balustrade is metal, including the flowers; the lamp petals are glass.
What appears to be the Beyazıt Tower depicted on a 19th-century hamam tası (bath bowl). Rebuilt in the early 1800s after major fires, the tower served as Istanbul’s fire-watch and signalling post, becoming also an urban icon within everyday Ottoman material culture.
🎬Queen & Slim (Melina Matsoukas, 2019).
📈In Spain, only 35 out of 17,850 cemeteries offer Muslim sections, and many have no available space or are abandoned. In Germany, more than 80% of Muslims of Turkish origin choose repatriation. Here are some facts about the situation 👇🏾
In Europe, dying with dignity is a luxury. In my analysis for the Anna Lindh Foundation on Muslim Burial Rights in Europe I explore how the severe lack of Muslim cemeteries in Spain 🇪🇸 & Germany 🇩🇪 exposes a systemic failure of integration and belonging. www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...

“The Genoese House” in Galata. With columns dating from the 4th–5th centuries, it was used between the 13th and 15th centuries as a shop, residence, and possibly as an annex of the Church of St Paul (now the Arab Mosque). 📍Ceneviz Sanat, Galata

🛤️The typical landscape of the Phrygian Way: wheel tracks carved into the rock, the result of centuries of passage, from the time of the Phrygians (13th–8th centuries BCE) to the Roman period and even the early Byzantine era. 📍Kütahya, Turkey
