Nat pulled the car to the side of the road, gave Victoria one last embrace and bid her farewell, before Victoria left the car and into the crisp air outside. As Nat drove away, Luna finally noticed them and gave a cheery wave to Victoria, which she returned with a wide smile. As Victoria crossed the road excitedly, she lost her footing and slipped on a small patch of ice, and would have gone tumbling down to the ground had she not been caught just in time by Luna.
“Woah, careful!” Said Luna. Victoria's brain short circuited as she lay bundled in Luna's arms, staring up at her with wide eyes. When she finally snapped back to her senses, she hastily stood back up and cleared her throat awkwardly

We already know she’s looking for it, that’s nothing new,” said Ellie cynically.
“She must have been tipped off like we had been,” said Nyx, “It would explain who she was with.”
“All this is great and all,” said Ellie, cutting Nyx off yet again, much to their increasing frustration, “But I remember asking you to kill her. Did you do it?”
Even in their unliving state, Nyx felt a dreadful welling in their throat, as though their body was rejecting the idea of telling her anything else. After a moment of tense silence, they managed to swallow it down, and continued hesitantly.
“She managed to escape using magik as we closed in on her,” Nyx admitted meekly. At last, Ellie turned and made direct eye contact, sitting up to her full height. Another long moment passed in silence. If Nyx’s heart had a beat, it would surely be pounding against their ribs, but they managed to remain still and composed. Ellie then smiled, cocking her head to the side slightly. Taken aback, Nyx tried to return the smile, hoping there was perhaps some forgiveness to be found after all.
WHACK!
Nyx’s vision went black for a second as their head was violently slammed into the table. They felt their nose break instantly on impact, stars filling their vision as pain shot through their body.
Vampires were no strangers to pain, of course, but the sheer ferocity at which Ellie had slammed their head downwards managed to force a yell out of them. Before they had even had a chance to process what had just happened, Ellie had placed one foot on the table and leant forward, grasping firmly at their neck. They could feel her claws extended, threatening the flesh of their neck.

“Hey, V, what do you think?” she called as she emerged from the armoury a moment later. Victor, who had been pouring over the alchemical instruments set up in the laboratory section, looked up to see her clad in a jet black trench coat, the hem of which came just to the top of her shoes. It fit her quite well, complementing her frame and giving her a much more solid and commanding presence. Victor, of course, wished nothing less than to admit this to her, and so put on a face of disgust to fool her.
“I think it’s a bit much,” he said gravely. She scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“Shut up, you jerk, you wish you looked this cool!” she retorted. Victor came over to join her in the armoury, curious at what lay beyond the door, and he, too, was in awe at the sheer number of weapons that lay within.
“How did they even get all these down here?” he remarked. His eyes were drawn to an ominous looking display case in the back of the room. Victoria followed him as he drew closer to it. Within was a dark, ebony sword with intricate silver carvings in its hilt, set around a flawless red ruby in the curve of the handle. Its blade was so absolutely black it reflected almost none of the lamplight above. Its edge was razor sharp and beautifully maintained. It was arguably the most awesome looking object in the room, but as Victor tried to open the cabinet, he found it locked tight and inaccessible.

She walked to the center of the room and dropped to her knees. Her hands surprisingly gentle, she lifted the Key from her neck and held it in her hands, feeling the warmth spread through her fingertips, illuminating her dead flesh and making her hand glow a deep crimson red. She rolled it in her fingers a few times before she reached into her pocket and extracted a knife from within.
“Please… please work,” she whispered to herself, her voice softer than it ever had been. With the blade of the knife, she carved a deep gash into the palm of her hand, causing the thick, almost black vampiric blood to ooze from it. As the key made contact with her torn flesh, she felt its burn for the first time. A hot wave of pain spread through her arm, making her wince with a small yelp, but she held fast
The blood soaked into the surface of the gem, seemingly absorbed by its crystalline surface and fuelling its intense glow. She clenched her fist tightly around it, and with a scream of pent up anger, sadness, guilt and pain, she slammed it as hard as she could into the floor. Immediately, the glow intensified and the whole room was lit up with bright scarlet light. Her blood evaporated from the gem and swirled in front of her like red smoke, forming cryptic shapes as it swirled and orbited the center of the room. Ellie’s scream continued as immense amounts of blood began pooling in the corners of her eyes and running down her face in torrents, deepening the manic look in her eyes in the heavy red shadows cast by the gem.
The red smoke began to swirl into three distinct shapes, growing larger and more complex with each passing second. Slowly, but surely, they began to form into humanoid shapes; two adults, and one child, standing stock still as their edges continued to solidify

As he was introduced, Sprite offered a mockingly cheery wave, showing off his long, manicured nails, while simultaneously Nyx narrowed their eyes and bared their teeth at Victoria in anger. The last one, Jack, bared her teeth and let out a guttural snarl. Victoria shivered.
“And you, I take it, are Helsing and crew,” Ellie finished, staring deep into Victoria’s eyes from over the top of her glasses. Victoria could see her glinting undead eyes in the shadows beneath them and shuddered.
Victoria’s words failed her. She remained silent, but her face betrayed her fear, to which Ellie grinned with wicked glee. She began to pace back and forth in front of them, making each of them stiffen as the tension grew. Nobody seemed to want to make the first move, and Ellie reveled in it. Beside her, John began to fumble with his tool box, the clicking adding an extra layer of stress to Victoria’s already overwhelmed mind.
“I know you probably think we’re monsters,” Ellie continued, deriving sadistic glee from Victoria’s fear, “But I think there’s a way we can all walk away from this unhurt. You have something that I want, and I’m feeling generous today, so if you give it to me now, I’ll let you walk away.”
She took a few steps closer, and Victoria felt the Key in her pocket burn hot against the skin of her chest as she approached. It took all her might, but she managed to suppress her wince of pain so as not to betray its location for now. It wasn’t long before it was scalding against her skin, however, and soon her face flushed and her brow began to sweat.
“What do you say, huh?” said Ellie, getting right up into Victoria’s face and looking intensely into her eyes to catch even the slightest movement. In spite of all her efforts, Victoria’s eyes darted for half a second towards her pocket, and her blood ran cold when she realised what she had done.

“Wakey wakey,” Ellie taunted, grasping Victoria’s chin and forcing her to make eye contact. Victoria’s gaze switched from one of confusion to one of deep rooted rage, and she shook her face free of Ellie’s grip. She pulled her hands tight against the ropes, but wasn’t able to pull them apart, rendering her trapped and neutered.
“I seem to remember giving you a chance to walk away easily,” Ellie growled, “and instead, you blew off half my face. You’ll forgive me if I pay you back for it.”
Her claws extended and she swiped Victoria’s face with a backhanded strike. Victoria yelped in searing pain as a spray of blood peppered the floor. When she looked back up, the left side of her face sported four deep slashes, oozing blood and thankfully narrowly avoiding her eye. She retched in pain as Ellie laughed to herself, retracting her claws into her fingers once again.
“You don’t know how much I needed that,” she mocked gleefully. Before Victoria could even process what happened, Ellie grabbed her throat and pulled her closer, lifting the back half of the chair from the floor and making her choke.

There was a moment of silence. Fiona’s gaze lost any trace of the confusion it had held. Her hands began to clench as her shoulders heaved in anger. Victoria felt fear welling up within her.
“Even after all these years, everything I've done to steer you on the right path,” Fiona said softly, her voice shaking with rage, “You have still ended up just like him…”
“What? What do you…” Victoria trailed off as she caught a glimpse of her reflection in the mirror by her wardrobe.
She looked entirely different: she was definitely taller, suddenly standing over six feet, and her muscles had become much more defined and prominent, pulling the sleeves of her shirt so tight they had split. Her eyes were bright, the irises had changed from their usual brown to a rich, unnatural golden colour, and her hair had brightened from black to a snowy white, with the slightest shimmer of violet as it caught the light. Her breathing quickened once again as panic set in.
“Mum… What's going on? What's happened to me?” She begged. Fiona said nothing, looking up at her daughter with disgust and betrayal. Victoria's anguish flipped suddenly, her despair turning into frustration, which itself began to bubble into rage.
