I should have probably of added this map to my post yesterday about fourteen locks. Thomas Dadford Jr liked to build his locks close to rise quickly. He died young at 40 but achieved some good things on the network, he also had some failures like the Leominster canal youtu.be/f8KBwG8Cuxs?...
The mystery lock of Newport is a lock on the Fourteen locks just outside of Newport. Completed in 1799 by the engineer Thomas Dadford JR it raises the canal 50m in just 740m. There’s lots of theories for what it was used for. A video on the locks is available here youtu.be/DKV071aIdpE?...
The Purton Hulks are a collection of 80+ boats, from concrete ships to Severn Trows all sunk on the banks. In 1909 after a riverbank collapse there were fears that the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal would breach into the tidal Severn, so they reinforced the banks with barges youtu.be/w3WElHF4wf4?...
During 2020 one of the major obstructions to the The Cotswold Canals restoration was removed when a new roundabout was built on the A38 to take the canal towards its new route and the missing mile. You can see an explanation here youtu.be/FZTBYcHLkX0?...
