So i guess that means no more sunspots or prominences for years to come?🤣🤣🤣 However, with that purchase can i welcome you to the Dark Side … (well OK the bright side in your case🤷🏻♂️🔭)
Enjoyed #NAM2026 @royalastrosoc.bsky.social Awards Dinner. Stimulating conversations with young #astronomy researchers i had never met before and who all spoke with such passion for the subject and what it can offer - UK is lucky to have such a community… but i did miss out on a clear night 🤦🏻♂️🤣🔭
Good to finally catch up with @planet4589.bsky.social in the flesh! A great asset for Team Space in UK #NAM2026 @ukspaceagency.bsky.social
Community Session #NAM2026 on UK astro-funding and govt support (or not) for sector. Great observations from @astroroyalscot.bsky.social and updates from @ukspaceagency.bsky.social #stfc - “watchful waiting” but praise for @royalastrosoc.bsky.social actions in raising the profile of the sector
Good to be back at #NAM2026 @royalastrosoc.bsky.social #UniofBirmingham. Looking forward to hearing about cutting -edge #astronomy rather than “cutting the edge off” astronomy… the Community session later today will be interesting 🔭👏👏👏 First up - #SpaceSustainability
A few recent globulars. Trying to use the same workflow for better comparisons between them. #messier2 #messier5 #messier13 #messier14. Can you spot the alien? It's messier 2 - the glob came to us when we merged with its own galaxy 8-10 billion years ago. #EAA #astrophotography 🔭
Very much enjoyed the exoplanet/astrobiology breakfast session at Cosmic Catchup #spacewest in Bristol this morning - stimulating AND caffeine 👏👏👏 @stellarplanet.bsky.social #ritacarvalhoserra @spacesword.bsky.social @bristoluni.bsky.social @astrobiologyou.bsky.social #NCC
Not brilliant from where i observe and my iphone against a pair of 20x80 binos is not the best platform for catching this but anyway … #Venus (top) and #Jupiter (bottom) #conjunction -about 1.5deg separation 🔭
When Judith Pillinger and I suggested a series of plaques to commemorate #Beagle2, we weren’t sure it would happen - but it has! Yesterday I unveiled the first of 14 commissioned by @ukspaceagency.bsky.social at Leicester #NSC. Yay! Read more in the next link #space #mars 🔭 1/2
A bit of fun. Imaging the craters #Copernicus and #Eratosthenes on consecutive nights to see the progress of shadows across the lunar landscape #astronomy #EAA #moon #astrophotography
Happy #TowelDay hoopy froods. As #DouglasAdams noted, the universe is huge, ridiculous, and best approached with a sense of humour and a towel. My towel kept dew off the scope and the universe obligingly sent over a few photons from #Caldwell35 #ComaCluster 320 MLY away #EAA #astrophotography 🔭
Chance last night to catch a #ClairObscure on the Moon known as #LunarX and #LunarV. Just fitted onto my camera video frame so caught 60 secs and then stacked in Astrosurface. I know others have also been hunting including @marymcintyreastro.bsky.social and @peterlewis55.bsky.social 🔭 🌔 ... #moon
My rather limited attempt at honouring #SirDavidAttenborough with an astro image known as "The #Penguin and it's Egg" #NGC2937 #Arp142 #EAA #astronomy #astrophotography🔭
Time for four more quick-fire #Messier #Galaxies imaged during rare nights this season ... #Messier60 #Messier96 #Messier98 #Messier100 after all Spring is "Galaxy Season" 😀 #EAA #astronomy #astrophotography 🔭
Happy 100th Birthday #SirDavidAttenborough - you have made the invisible visible: the oceans, forests, deserts, species and systems that shape the only world we truly depend on. You have revealed more of this world to more people than, I suspect, any individual in history. #nature #earth
science, formed when the universe was about 10% of its current age (look-back time of 12.6 billion years). So let me introduce you to #J1204-0021 (z=5.09) - a desperately small red smudge of photons that have travelled a long way to get to my garden. 3/3 #astrophotography 🔭 @callump.bsky.social
Sorry for a (partly) repeat posting but I caught #messier82 the other night with necessary Ha data from my LENH filter, so decided to revisit nearby #messier81 and take some Ha data to reprocess into my earlier image posted last week - well they ARE a matched pair!! #astrophotography 🔭
New #quasar record for my site (Bortle 5). My z value is now 4.57 and a look-back time of 12.4 billion years. I pushed my total imaging exposure beyond self-imposed limit of 60 mins (moved to 100 mins). Sadly not much science data exists on this quasar 🔭 #astrophotography @callump.bsky.social
Finally addressing a backlog of #astro #galaxy images over recent weeks. Still under 60 mins exposure but am creeping close to the bar! #messier81 #messier65 #messier66 #messier106 #NGC3628 #EAA #space #astronomy Hope you all like them...
Plus a meteorite at 4.2 billion years old 😱 and W.Heath Robinson’s classic sketch of thex” search for Halley’s comet 🤣 -well done @prossian.bsky.social 👍
I saw this art work by #AnnaGillespie at the #RWA exhibition on “Art and the Cosmos” in Bristol - to me it says “the future of astronomy“ as we try to peer through the bars in our skies from bright satellite “noise”. 🤔 Art can be so profound! 🔭 #space @royalastrosoc.bsky.social
Had the joy of visiting a national garden today. I didn’t need to travel to the #moon to appreciate that what we have on this #BlueMarble called #Earth is very special and needs protection. #Earthsciences offer vital vital data to test its pulse #space #SpaceforEarth #inspiration #priorities
Ha is indeed on my list to add data to my image oh wise one! And yes the 2023ixf has faded 🙇🏻♂️
