Chris Pruett
@cpruett
Director of Games @meta. Thirty years of game dev, incl. Dead Secret, Wind-up Knight, and sick Hypercard stacks. I am a walking encyclopedia of horror games.
I'm a big Indigo De Souza fan, but I'm not sure where her hate for celestial bodies comes from.
Fans of the CUBE ESCAPE series are losing their minds in anticipation of @rustylake.com's next release, so I challenged myself to make a miniature version of their style of point-and-click puzzler in a weekend. I give you: PYRAMID ESCAPE. pyramid-865f7e.gitlab.io
"OK sir, this is going to be a very normal family photo of you and your wife and beautiful children standing in front of your house. Now I'm going to need you to stand way apart from each other, that's right. Now Timmy, love the outfit, go do the trance thing you do over by the fountain. Perfect."
Saw it and a bunch of other Hokusai prints in Tokyo earlier this year. Highly recommended!
Additional update: giving GDC a run for its money with conference food prices. Here's my $30 breakfast.
Ok I knew I was going to be old for this conference but the reality of my advanced years is a shock. Pretty sure I look indistinguishable from this guy
Random game Saturday! It's CURSE: THE EYE OF ISIS, a Victorian London horror game about Cthulhu^H^H^H evil Egyptian monsters. Features (amongst other things) a boss with a ground pound attack that accidentally hits its own knee colliders and damages itself.
I feel like there's a message here, I just can't quite put my finger on it.
My son's Tomodachi Life town is psychotic. Jeff The Killer is best friends with Totoro, Walter White, and the Minecraft creeper. Phillip Zimbardo, the architect of the 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment, just moved in.
I am a big fan of Nanashi No Geemu because it's a horror game about a game developer building a (cursed) horror game. It's cursed because crunch led the lead dev to go insane and murder his family.
Random game Saturday! It's Echo Night: Beyond, a masterclass horror walking simulator before we had the term "walking simulator." The best of the Echo Night series and one of the best horror games of the era, though fairly obscure. Badass intro movie is one of my favorites: youtu.be/R8QOIy1-Oe8?...
I gave a talk at GDC yesterday! It was about the state of VR and where it's going. If you missed it, well, it's back! In blog form: developers.meta.com/horizon/blog...
Yeah I'm talking at GDC this week, on Wednesday. I promise it's super formal.
Learning is a wave, and this isn't the only peak in the curve. There's at least one previous peak full of games apparently unlisted on IGDB. And I feel like I'm on the upward slope of the next peak now. But these were part of a very large inflection in my understanding of video games.
Hey I'm speaking at GDC next week! Come and learn about how VR is going and also look at my stupid drawings. schedule.gdconf.com/session/the-...
