It’s a privilege to welcome our keynote Dr Marleen Kok @nkinl.bsky.social to #CRUKCoL2026. Her lab aims to unpick why only a subgroup of breast cancer patients benefit from drugs that stimulate the anti-cancer immune response, and develop predictive tests that can select patients who will benefit.
At #CRUKCoL2026 we're hearing from Jai Sidpra, MBPhD alumnus, on his group's brain imaging technique, 'tumour network mapping’. For the first time, this enables researchers to define anatomic maps of prognostic brain network connections which exist between tumours and the otherwise healthy brain.
The context to @karinstraathof.bsky.social's talk is collaboration supported by @cruk-rrc-col.bsky.social bringing together her translational research group and the proton beam radiotherapy team, enabling research into optimisation of combined radiation + CAR T-cell therapy in sarcoma. #CRUKCoL2026
We’re joined at our Annual Symposium by @crhorizons.bsky.social, the 2nd largest cancer drug licensor globally. Aurora Negro set out how CRH can support #CRUKFunded scientists to protect and develop their ideas and engage and collaborate with industry to realise translational potential. #CRUKCoL2026
@christophertape.bsky.social is presenting at #CRUKCoL2026 on single-cell phenoscaping of tumour microenvironment organoids, outlining the delineation of colorectal cancer cells along a spectrum of stem-like states and the role of fibroblasts in pushing cancer cells into a treatment-resistant state.
At #CRUKCoL2026, Dr Ellie Alberts is discussing triple negative breast cancer. An approach combining pathology, spatial analysis, + machine learning has shown associations between immune features of sentinel lymph nodes - specifically the accumulation of extrafollicular plasma cells - and outcomes.
It's our Annual Symposium! #CRUKCoL2026 sees 400 delegates meet for scientific presentations, networking and discussion. Prof Mariam Jamal-Hanjani + Dr Erik Sahai are co-chairs. Our programme covers immune system x TME crosstalk, emerging molecular mechanisms, and cancer origins + genetic mosaicism.
This #WorldCancerDay we're delighted to attend the launch of @cancerresearchuk.org's strategic approach to equality, diversity and inclusion in research. Our faculty member Prof Kairbaan Hodivala-Dilke was also part of today's panel.

Nick Willoughby of @kingslsm.bsky.social was highly commended in our 2025 Image Competition. His photo shows PhD student Esme Carpenter telling patients how their blood samples are used to investigate poor cancer outcomes in people of African descent through @cancergrand.bsky.social Project SAMBAI.
Carmen Rodriguez of @uclmedsci.bsky.social was highly commended in our 2025 Image Competition. Her image shows the interaction between osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and osteoclasts, which can be corrupted to help the tumour spread. Scientists are exploring how to support the immune system to respond.
Eitan Mirvis of @kingslsm.bsky.social was highly commended in our 2025 Image Competition for a picture of his colleague Dr Le Anh Luong, preparing to collect T cells from blood samples. These will be used in CAR T cell therapy, a ground-breaking treatment to boost the immune system to fight cancer.
Daire Hanna @qmbci.bsky.social was highly commended in our 2025 Image Competition. This lab-grown model of pancreatic cancer shows the dense extracellular matrix (white). By recreating this in the lab, scientists can test drug combinations to help the immune system penetrate and attack the cancer.
Congratulations to Joshua Daoud at @qmbci.bsky.social, who won 3rd prize in our 2025 Image Competition. His image shows the highly complex relationship between glioblastoma (brain cancer) and cells of the brain. By examining this 3D model of cells in the lab, scientists hope to improve treatments.
Well done Beatrice Malacrida and Florian Laforêts of @qmbci.bsky.social - 2nd prize in our 2025 Image Competition! Their image shows a lab-grown ovarian tumour model, created to help scientists better understand how a tumour interacts with its surrounding microenvironment and pioneer new treatments.
🏆The winner of our 2025 Image Competition is Dr Elly Tyler of @qmbci.bsky.social, for her image 'Where Collagen Burns and Immunity Falters'! In this breast tumour tissue, collagen fibres in the extracellular matrix blaze like wildfire.
It's time for STARS! We're opening our doors to the cancer researchers of the future. Over 50 students from schools with historically low uni admissions will get hands-on lab experience at @qmbci.bsky.social, @uclmedsci.bsky.social and @kingslsm.bsky.social. Find out more: colcc.ac.uk/stars-2025/
Delighted to host our Prevention Primer with @cancerresearchuk.org ahead of #PrevConf25. We kicked off with the clinical perspective, hearing from Eva Szabo (NCI) and @sarahblagden.bsky.social, who discussed using precision trials in high risk populations to go further, faster in prevention research
Today our world-class facilities staff gather to discuss latest research, emerging technologies, and career development. We have a packed programme covering the full scope of expertise on offer to researchers at our Centre @crick.ac.uk @qmbci.bsky.social @kingslsm.bsky.social @uclmedsci.bsky.social
