McPherson Fire Update:

Crews continue working to secure the fire’s edge using direct suppression tactics. This morning, two Large Air Tankers dropped retardant, and the Type 3 helicopter is conducting water drops at the head of the fire. Approximately 75 firefighting personnel are currently assigned and actively engaged.

Weather forecasts continue to call for hot, dry, and windy conditions, which may increase fire activity. Please avoid the area to allow firefighters to work safely and efficiently.

• Fire Behavior: running, creeping, smoldering
• Cause: Human
• Estimated Containment: 8/9 - 1800
• Estimated Control: 8/11 - 1800

Update on the McPherson Fire over by Grace. #IdahoFire

The fire is estimated at 225 acres and is running, creeping, and smoldering with structures threatened, per the Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center. Ground resources are working their way around the fire with support from aircraft. Red Flag weather conditions will most likely continue into Monday with low relative humidities and gusty winds adding complexity to containment.
• Estimated Containment: 8/9 - 1800
• Estimated Control: 8/11 - 1800
• Resources on Scene: 4 engines, 2 dozer, 1 Air Attack, 1 Helicopter, Heavy Air Tankers and Overhead.
• More resources are on order to aid in containment of the McPherson
Fire.

● Location: Between Pocatello and Inkom in the Portneuf Gap.
● Size: estimated at 200 acres.

● Evacuations: Yes a small area west of Inkom, please contact Bannock County Sheriffs Office for more information.
● No estimated time of containment currently.
● Resources: Resources from the U.S. Wildland Fire Service Great Basin Unit 3 -Idaho Falls, US Forest Service and multiple cooperating agencies are on scene.
● Fuel type: Grass/Brush
● Fire Behavior: active(running and torching)
● Structures threatened: Yes.
● Cause: Under Investigation
Objectives: Firefighter and public safety is the highest priority. Please avoid the area and give the firefighters room to work.
Drones: IF YOU FLY, WE CAN'T. Reminder that if you fly a drone over a fire, some operations could be suspended.

The Gap Fire by Inkom now has an evacuation order for the area of W Old Hwy 91 & Old Canyon Drive. It’s up to 200 acres. Sounds like the FS was using a helicopter to drop some water on it as well. Haven’t seen any official statements, but it all started along the train tracks. #IdahoFire

Shortly after I started work with the FS, we practiced with the router for making trail signs. After some struggle, I got the hang of it. Carved my name and you best believe I brought that home.
