Cathie’s Stylish Treasures is functional and colorful ceramics for everyday use. It is my way of expressing creativity and sharing a smile.
Thought it was time I made jars for my loose teas, so here are two options. #amacomulberryceladon on my homemade black porcelain clay body is mine to keep. First time trying #amacoironlustre with #maycomicropearl and it’s a nice combination too.
I had some homemade yellow slip that dried out so I reconstituted it and made marbled clay. I was in a sunny mood on a rainy day. Feel the sun: inside, outside and upside down. #amacoceladon #happypotter #pottersofbluesky
Though I still like that I got texture from #ritualbeads glaze but no beads. This was 4 coats. Gotta try again. #glazeexperiments #moonjars #wheelthrownpotter #maycoglaze #justceramics
The idea of having a collection of test tiles collecting dust in my home studio just doesn’t work for me. Testing the look of tropical teal with running hot chowder on the little bowl and light flux on the other bowl. #justceramics #pottersofbluesky #functionalpottery
I’m excited to share what I’ve been up to lately and hope I’m not spoiling the surprise. This carafe set is a request from my son for his upcoming wedding in Iceland. They only saw the bisqueware. The adinkra symbol means the power of love. #pottersofbluesky #functionalpotterywithflair #justceramics
Just finished a busy day with our first Savannah Clay Community Pottery Tour. I got to interact with some wonderful people and even sold a few things. Here are a few examples of what flew off the table at first glance. #pottersofbluesky #potterylife #functionalpotterywithflair #pottery #justceramics
Patience and persistence is truly a virtue I applied to this remake of a broken mug. So I don’t often make mugs and it took 4 tries until I was satisfied. The new owner was completely happy too. And a bonus, I used kintsugi to repair the broken mug which is now a pencil holder.
I worry about timing the leather hard stage. I do make my own slip to match the clay body, but haven’t tried the liner since these plates I made in our early MC days.😁
This mug was inspired a picture I took on an African safari and leftover clay from a nerikomi workshop. Thank goodness the lines don’t need to be perfectly straight.
I just adore these bowls and mini vases as I continue to experiment with colors of floating glazes. #just-ceramics #pottersofbluesky #spectrumfloatingglazes
Here are the glazed Georgia red clay. I love the fired color natural too. I only wish I made the planters larger since I doubt I’ll go back to using the clay body again. I really really prefer a smooth grog-less surface to work with. #justpottery #pottersofbluesky #GAclay
Hoping this custom order of pasta bowls and water pitcher brings smiles. I’m loving the ethnic vibe. #justceramics #pottersofbluesky #wheelthrown #functionalpottery
I was afraid the handle wouldn’t hold the weight with the pitcher filled or be awkward to use. I’m ok if an hand is used at the base to support the weight.
Super proud of this rainbow set. #justceramics #pottersofbluesky #wheelthrownpottery #ceramicart #functionalpottery
Lizella clay- I just had to try it since I’m living in GA now. Spoiled by mainly using porcelain, that rough grog clay is challenging my hand The hardest part on my hands is centering and opening. Once I work up enough slurry it’s much easier to pull and shape. Gotta get some gloves right away. 😁
Touch a rainbow and find pure gold. #pottersofbluesky #justceramics #wheelthrownpottery
When my loving parter accidentally 2 classic Corning ware casserole dishes, I decided it was time to make my own version. So I’ve been experimenting with standard 630 clay. This casserole has two lids.
I don’t often get to see how my ceramic art makes a statement in this art collector’s home. It’s such an honor. #ceramicartist #artcollection #homedecorating #blackceramicartist #pottersofbluesky #justceramics
It’s very satisfying to experiment with creativity and learn from the successes and failures. These double sided coasters taught me what was possible while considering a design and decorations technique that is kiln safe and fit the decor of my NBHS classmate’s collection of ceramics.
Finished planters are stacking up. So I keep asking myself when I’m gonna get around to my houseplant repotting project Dribbled a bright green glaze just for fun. #pottersofbluesky
Several years ago I made the largest pot ever. This time I made its twin carved with the same elements I loved from the great Nigerian potter, Ladi Kwali-beetles, lizards, shields. While the smaller version awaits its new home, it’s next to its bigger one just for fun.
I rarely make mugs, but when I do it’s a duo purpose one with a loose tea strainer. It’s so time consuming to keep tiny wholes free of glass. Maybe I should replace my all my commercial mugs next. #pottersofbluesky #justceramics #wheelthrown #handmademugs
And I made this peacock decorated glaze bowl for me to go with the 4 bowls I made earlier this year. Yes, I can claim it even though I know I could sell it🤗
Sometimes I just make functional ceramics for myself and sometimes for others. This time I was trying to replace a Corning casserole dish that got broken and a friend saw an unfinished piece on my shelf. Good thing I made 2, cause the first pic has a small S crack.
Very pleased how these pasta bowls turned out again. Custom orders do stress me out a little. Which makes the results are even more satisfying to me. #pastabowls #wheelthrowingpottery #peacockglazingtechnique
The clay is Laguna, not sure the number but the clay moist is grey and fires buff. I don’t think it’s b-mix speckled. Here’s a pic of the Mayco glazes I used
And now some testing of Mayco glazes on this closed form little jar. I don’t use test tiles because I don’t want a collection of dust catchers around. #pottersofbluesky #justceramics #wheelthrownpottery #notaproductionpotter
I’m gonna do something different here… SCAD annual sidewalk chalk art showcases amazing artistic talent. So no pottery pics, just a few examples of my favorite chalk art.
Got so tied up line dancing for #savannahbanananans that my greenware is stacking up. Here’s the my latest commissioned piece freshly carved. It’s a tribute to Nigerian potter Ladi Kwali 1925-1984. #wheelthrownpottery
