We learnt this week that functionally illiterate American workers earn as much as the average Brit. There is not much schools can do about this. We need other parts of govt to take responsibility. substack.nomoremarking.com/p/schools-ar...
Just got this comment on my Substack 😍 substack.nomoremarking.com/p/the-proble...

Should we take politics out of education? No! substack.nomoremarking.com/p/jim-callag...
I think proponents of devolution underesetimate how much people loathe postcode lotteries. How much they hate the idea of someone in another local authority getting something they don't. It's a fundamental British value to hate postcode lotteries... substack.nomoremarking.com/p/jim-callag...

We’ve just published a help guide explaining all the different ways we can help schools with assessment in 2026-27. Our AI marking system handles large-scale national projects, and everyday marking for individual teachers. Read more to see what we offer. help.nomoremarking.com/en/article/w...
More VAR controversies at the World Cup. My book has sections on Snickometer (chapter 1) and the problems with using slow-motion replays (chapter 2). On the latter, there is so much research showing slo-mo changes perception of intentionality. amzn.eu/d/06GbjQaz

Nice article here in today's FT which quotes me. Banning AI in assessments will actually lead to it being used more sensibly in the classroom. See here for more chess-related analogies from me. substack.nomoremarking.com/p/three-thin...
We started our KS3 writing project in the middle of the pandemic. The first assessment was Year 7 in Sept 2020, when we saw declines from the March 2020 Y6 assessment. Since then we have assessed KS3 at the start & end of every year. Latest progress data here. medium.com/blog-nomorem...
We're talking to lots of schools & Trusts at the moment about their 2026-27 assessments. If you would like to make 26-27 the year you solve marking, get in touch! www.cal.eu/daisy-christ...
We have another new feature for our primary assessments - a handwriting report. The AI provides automatic feedback and practice tasks for every student. It's an experimental feature you can turn on or off and we are welcoming feedback on it. help.nomoremarking.com/en/article/e...
One of my favourite No More Marking reports is our Year Book, which shows a school's writing journey across a year. We've updated it this year to show the most improved students in every year group, from the start to the end of the year. help.nomoremarking.com/en/article/t...
Our final AI marking intro webinar of the year is next Weds - 1 July - at 4pm. (We will be finished by 5 when England - maybe - play their last 32 match). Make 2026-27 the year you solve marking!! www.nomoremarking.com/events
Some more great feedback on our new AI marking platform, this time from Inspiration Trust. What people like about it is the way it speeds up marking but still retains the link between the teacher and the student work. elisabethbowling.substack.com/p/ai-and-mar...
We worked with Amaryllis Barton at King Edward VI school in Stratford on a trial of our AI marking software for Year 9 English. Amaryllis was able to mark and leave feedback for 26 essays in just 20 minutes. substack.nomoremarking.com/p/an-ai-mark...
We have got a case study out today with big implications. People think AI marking means breaking the link between teacher & students. But with our system, you can use AI to cut workload by 90% & still provide every student with teacher feedback. substack.nomoremarking.com/p/an-ai-mark...
Our final AI assessment webinar of the academic year is on Wed 1 July. Register now! www.nomoremarking.com/events
If you’re going to personalise education based on student interests, you have to be realistic about what most students are interested in and the limitations of how you can use those interests to teach. substack.nomoremarking.com/p/why-person...
Our AI marking system has some unique features. - Every piece of writing is still seen TWICE by a teacher. - Every piece of writing gets feedback from a teacher. - It still reduces workload by about 95%. help.nomoremarking.com/en/article/h...
Research is good, but common sense is always an option! substack.nomoremarking.com/p/why-person...
