So the thing about this is that the comic is promoting the "benefits" of Lois raising this adopted child during the time of the 60s Scoop, with the child's tribe being shown as unreasonably wanting to keep the child.
I guess Marvel's explanation is that she stopped tanning for a bit. That is their very real response to how a Black Woman turned white for a while and then became light skinned. They even have a panel of her tanning to prove it.
I get that every artist has their take on a character in comics, but marvel artists gotta explain what they did to Monet.
