Today's @chroniclelive.co.uk front page as the families of two North East children who were tragically killed back an urgent review of the Government's early prison release policy, which Andy Burnham has paused this afternoon. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Today would have been the 9th birthday of Archie York, who was killed in the Violet Close explosion in 2024. It was a true privilege to see the Forever 7 nature trail being opened in his memory and, as ever, to speak to his amazing mum Katherine. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Relieved to be sharing this news today... After months of uncertainty, the final £6m we were promised for the restoration of the Tyne Bridge is now secure. Proud of the work we've done @chroniclelive.co.uk to keep up the pressure on this. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Today's front pages on the day we're told the long-awaited extension of the Tyne and Wear Metro to Washington should finally happen by 2033 www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Cool to see the Shields Ferry sailing all the way up to the Quayside this morning. Just a training run, not a new boat service up the Tyne unfortunately!
Interesting day in Leeds yesterday with mayors, Angela Rayner, and Sir Brendan Foster talking about the Great North. Will be watching closely to see what this can deliver and if Government's warm words translate into real investment. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Good to read @robparsonsna.bsky.social in @thenorthernagenda.bsky.social today scrutinising Keir Starmer's £1.7bn transport 'announcement' for the North (in which the North East wasn't mentioned...) Vast majority appears to be nothing new.
This morning's front pages, as the North East calls on the Government to finally commit to the final £6m promised for the restoration of the Tyne Bridge
Today's front page on the £400m cash injection needed to replace the Tyne and Wear Metro's signalling system by 2030. Not as shiny and exciting as new trains, but if the signals don't work then those trains won't be able to go anywhere... www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
This morning's front page, as the number of people sleeping rough in the North East hits a record high. Ruth Parker, chief exec of Emmaus North East, tells me the situation has reached 'crisis point' and should be a source of national shame. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Today's Journal front page, my report on yesterday's Marmot City conference in Newcastle and the action planned to combat the shocking health inequalities in the city. “Poverty must not be destiny”, says @michaelmarmot.bsky.social. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Today's @chroniclelive.co.uk front page on the businesses calling for help to ensure their high street is still alive once the Gateshead Flyover situation is finally resolved www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Tomorrow’s front pages on the travel crisis engulfing the North East this Christmas. We need action to resolve this now.
A summary of 24 hours reporting on public transport in the North East...
The new trains have air con, USB ports, sliding steps at every door, and CCTV cameras throughout.
What a day. Brilliant to be on board the first of the Tyne and Wear Metro’s shiny new trains as it entered passenger service. A very long time coming, but hopefully the start of a brighter future for the Metro.
Brilliant to see North East papers' joint campaign to bring the Crown Works Studios to Sunderland and the Journal's long-running Bad Blood campaign both nominated in the Regional Press Awards. Hugely deserved for @samuelevolpe.bsky.social et al.
Interesting choice of Elvis-themed Christmas decorations at the Newcastle Civic Centre…
And concerns here from @centreforcities.bsky.social that Labour will not be able to hit its target of 1.5m new homes by 2029, with the North East projected to fall more than 13,000 short www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
A couple of very different, and very important, housing stories on the front of today's papers. Details here on the 'ridiculous' heating bills faced by some Byker estate residents: www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-e...
Protest being held tonight outside North Tyneside Council HQ over the proposed closure of Monkseaton High School. There is a Tory motion at tonight’s meeting here calling for the plans to be halted.
Just had my first experience of seeing a new @my-metro.bsky.social train up close while out in the wild. Hopefully not long now before you can actually get on board one.
