The totally non-canon 1965 movie Doctor Who and the Daleks starring Peter Cushing. A terrible representation of Doctor Who, but I love how his granddaughter Susan is 100% the smartest person in the room at all times.
One of the last cassettes I remember buying before I started buying CDs was the first Nina Simone record I bought--a Mercury Compact Jazz collection.

I'm biased toward Contact, because it's based on a Carl Sagan novel, and I idolized Sagain when I was growing up. But, yeah, Jodie Foster gives an amazing performance, as always. 🙂
