The enduring political power of Right to Buy. As Britain faces a painful affordability crisis, we still sell off our social housing stock. Will Andy Burnham finally end it? Unlikely. I look at why in my new book Left to Rot: How Governments Have Betrayed Us and How We Fix it amzn.eu/d/09XgJs0V
In my new book Left to Rot, I interview both Andy Burnham and Angela Rayner about the UK housing crisis, what they think should be done and why. They are now in charge. So maybe worth having a read? Find a flavour below, and a link to buy it here: amzn.eu/d/04LNo3xR
I interviewed Andy Burnham in December about his rough sleeping target. He said he hadn’t been able to end it in GM because the Govt made it impossible. His argument will now be he has the levers to ensure a bed every night across the UK. A big pledge.
He’s promised the biggest council house building programme since the post war years, but why? Here’s a run through the reasons how things got so bad, and (some) of the challenges facing Andy Burnham fulfilling his plans. open.substack.com/pub/danhewit...
I interviewed Andy Burnham for my new book - Left to Rot: How Governments Have Betrayed Us and How We Fix It. He has said housing is his number one priority, that you can’t fix Britain without fixing housing. Below is a short extract. Buy Left to Rot now: amzn.eu/d/07K46oaB
Where’s the justice for people with learning disabilitied neglected in care? I’ve spent 18 months investigating. No provider prosecuted, even after a person died I spoke to the CQC, with powers to prosecute but rarely does. 11 since 2016 relating to LD care. www.itv.com/news/2026-06...

Rahima deserves to be heard. People with a learning disability are dying 20 years younger than the general population, for those from an ethnic minority group it’s 25 years. Rahima knows why. She has a learning disability & cerebral palsy. She speaks using a computer, but she is so often ignored.

Honoured to win the Royal Television Society award for News Coverage for a second year in a row, this time for our investigation into the Post Office. It was and is a privilege to cover, and to stand on the shoulders of great reporters who first exposed this scandal.
NEW: Speaking at the Crisis Homelessness Summit, the Mayor of Greater Manchester @andyburnham.bsky.social says that of the 1.5 million homes the Labour govt has promised to build in this parliament, 500,000 should be social homes. So far the govt has NOT committed to a specific number.

A pleasure to speak again this morning with these two heroes: Lee Castleton and Janet Skinner. Two former postmasters, put through hell by the Post Office - imprisoned, bankrupted - but not defeated.
Final day of Post Office public inquiry. Sub-postmasters have been here every day for almost 3yrs, listening to how and why their lives were destroyed. Today: final statement from Paula Vennells’ lawyers, who‘ll say she “wanted to do right” by them and deny covering up a scandal
