Took this super spooky image of the solar eclipse last night, and all I could think about was how people were channelling their inner sun gazing manosphere creator by staring directly at the sun 💀
I'm absolutely delighted to share that I've been awarded a Wellcome Early Career Award for my project, 'Towards Tourettic Futures', where I'll be exploring how tourettic ways of moving, sensing, and communicating can reshape understandings of health. @durham.ac.uk @durhamimh.bsky.social
This afternoon I attended a wonderful session from some of our brilliant @ndhumanities.bsky.social members. A powerful space for collab discussion and imagining a future of neuroaffirming humanities. Thanks to the organisers for holding such a wonderful event with us! Watch this space for more!
Tomorrow marks the start of a week spent at the wonderful 'The HopBarn' for my Artist's Residency! Looking forward to drifting around rural spaces, choreographing with #tics, and #DJing rural soundscapes to explore the role of rural affect on my tourettic body 🕺 #Dance #AcademicSky #TouretteSyndrome
My shadow for the weekend... (I think this mighy be Daisy's BlueSky debut?)
This week has been wild, and it's only Monday. Tiger is demonstrating how your emails will find me for the rest of the week. 😴
I'll be giving a public performance lecture at Dance City in Newcastle on Thu 27th November as a follow up to my Artist Residency. Sign up (for free!) for all things #TouretteSyndrome, affect, and pom pom-related! www.dancecity.co.uk/performance/... #PerformanceArt #Dance #AcademicSky
Over the last few months I've been developing some performance work through an Artist Residency at Dance City. It's been a really powerful and valuable period of reflection for me on Tourette Syndrome, rhythm, and disability aesthetics, and I'm looking forward to sharing more soon! 📸 Rhiannon Banks
My supervisor is appalled that you're thinking of working instead of giving scritches
On Thursday 27th November I'll be giving a public #performance lecture at Dance City, titled 'Clarifying the amorphous rhythms of #TouretteSyndrome'! If you're near Newcastle, why not stop by to see my impulsive performance #research in practice! #AcademicSky www.dancecity.co.uk/performance/...
This is Tiger. Tiger doesn't know about climate change, modern day facsism, or my ever increasing rent prices. Oh, to be a house cat!
Tomorrow marks the start of my #Dance Residency with Dance City. I'll be exploring #urban #affect and its impact on the Tourettic body, and considering the value of tics in performance spaces for translating experiences of #TouretteSyndrome! 🕺 Here's to making art! 🌟 (Photos from previous work!)
Added a couple of new additions to the hand-poked tattoo collection today! #Tattoo #HandPoked
The face of a cat who woke her humans up at 4am by punching them - still adorable though 😄😸
I thoroughly agree with Rob's call to share our practice, especially as geographers for whom many find ourselves working geographically from outside of geography departments, myself included. Lots of food for thought. For now, here's what today's practice looks like (In addition to BlueSky babbling)
Approximately 15 seconds before 3 spiders fell on me from a tree above me, welcoming us into spider season earlier than I’m happy about 🥲😭
I think it’s safe to say she’s settling in nicely. Welcome home, Tiger! 🥹🫶 #CatsOfBluesky
Today is ‘gotcha’ day for our rescue cat Tiger, who’s had such a rough start to life and deserves all the love in the world and to be spoilt rotten. We’re so excited to welcome this girl home! 🥹 #CatsOfBluesky
There are worse views for a morning of working on the move! 🚊
Mothers of Hind are urgently seeking #volunteer #lecturers from all #academic backgrounds to teach online and help students in #Gaza students complete their courses. Whether you can give a few hours or commit to an entire course, why not volunteer some of your time? forms.office.com/pages/respon...
I finally graduated from my #PhD today, and it was *so* lovely to be in the same ceremony as some of the undergraduates I used to teach! Feeling proud, both of my own achievements and the students’ who I’ve seen grow so much over the last few years 👏
Spent the weekend swimming, paddle boarding and eating picnics in the Lakes. I’m physically exhausted but my soul feels full 😊
For anybody interested to see the #poster version of my presentation on the value of online space for #TS wellbeing and belonging, the link is here: cdn.prod.website-files.com/5df74fd26a31... If you’d like the PDF with full alt text let me know! #TouretteSyndrome #Disability #PhD #AcademicSky
And that’s a wrap on #ESSTS 2025! It was great to hear the latest research on #TouretteSyndrome, to reconnect with colleagues, and to present my paper about the value of online spaces for the Tourettic community (all whilst getting some Greek sunshine!). Now for the long journey home… #AcademicSky ☀️
There’s a huge amount of awful stuff being shared this #TouretteSyndrome Awareness Month. Language and nuance matter, and charities are missing the mark. Don’t take everything you see this #TSAwarenessMonth at face value. Here’s a thread for you based on a Tourettes Action infographic… (1/6)
We even have these fancy audio reels, so here’s your sneaky preview! Check out the episode on your favourite podcast streaming service today! open.spotify.com/episode/3HSY... #Podcast #Academia #Disability #Neurodiversity #AcademiaSky
Feeling very grateful for blue skies and good coffee today. Summer is on the way! ☀️
Spent some annual leave lying in uncomfortable positions, watching old horror films on VHS, and adding to my hand-poked tattoo collection! A moment of appreciation for my tattoo artists’s studio vibes please ✨
Spent the afternoon recording a #radio feature for #BBCBerkshire about #TouretteSyndrome, the importance of digital community spaces, and the need for NICE diagnostic guidelines for #TS… watch this space! 👏 #DigitalHealth #AcademicSky
