Working on prep. Stretched some canvases, gesso’d all this, gonna grid a few and get started on some new stuff 😋

This sunflower painting took 49 hours over the course of 5 months to complete. (A good long break and a bit of repainting made it take longer than planned.) But it’s done and I love it! I’ll take better pictures after varnish in a few weeks. #oilpainting #watermixableoil #painting #art #sciart

Finished a little painting study of cherries 🍒 #painting #art

Doing some gridding prep for class tomorrow. I hope they enjoy my collection of ref photos. ✨

14 photos that have been printed 4” x 6” and gridded in pen 1/2” grids.
The photos include 5 with flower subjects and the others have animal subjects. I’ve taken all of these photos and plan on sharing them with my students tomorrow.

Had to drive to Florida for an errand. We just so happened to be pulling into Jax at sunrise so we made a beach stop. It was super pretty but I’m happy to be back up in the mountains now.

There’s a wispy white cloud at the very top that looks like the silhouette of a seagull. The sky is blue at the top and fades into a bit or orange, pink, and violet towards the horizon. There’s a dark wispy cloud at the horizon covering where the sun is. There’s a slight golden and bright pink glow around the edges around that dark cloud.

I keep bouncing back to this as time allows. I’m spending a lot of time staring at it and thinking about how I want to change the top bit. Might reshoot the dress ref, needs better flow.

Small squares > big squares So much happier with it! 🌻

I finished this one last year. It was my first pixel painting I did on paper. Definitely a fun change of pace working on something a lot smoother than canvas… but I wasn’t used to yet. I’ve improved a lot since. #art

Year two of attempt at growing edible plants. Some are growing big but they are struggling with the heat this week. I need to water them more, but I’m happier with this set up. I installed a mesh cover today that should help keep the neighbor’s cat out.

Almost feels like staring over on this painting. But I’m hopeful about it, not at all unhappy. I was feeling stuck and now I’m moving forward again.

My sunflower painting got some new gridlines in white pen in the places where the squares are.

After months of studying this wip on my desk… I’ve decided that it’s needs smaller squares. So, I’ll be redoing quite a bit of this but it’ll be worth the trouble.

This is the first show I entered with this local art club. A few weeks ago I found out I won an award, and today I saw the sold sticker! It feels like the universe is rewarding me for rejoining society. 🫶 my hermit era is ending

Another face for my current painting… and a hand I’m pretty happy with so far.

Figuring out this negative space situation

A 24” x 24” canvas is propped up on a cardboard box so the artist can analyze the work in progress underpainting. The painting is created with shades of grey so far. A female figure in a dress floats at the top. The background is simple with subtle shifts in value, but overall pretty blank. The bottom of the painting has not been painted yet.

A small original water-mixable oil painting. The painting is of the Natural Bridge in Virginia. There’s a pathway that leads through and very tall opening in the rock. The left and right side have been pixelated with 1/2 inch squares. The squares fade into tress and leaves as the painting reaches the realistic looking center.

Heyyy… I won an award! And so did 5 other really cool artists. This show was put on by the local art club that I joined this year. Someone I met at the club reached out and congratulated me on this recognition. That part is healing my antisocial heart. ❤️‍🩹

Four hours in.
