It's me, I'm nobody! Massively agree about not fetishising books or being weird about using them for decor, but e.g. I found this excellent 1930s political encyclopedia in a decor bookshelf. I think it's produced by the Labour Party/movement in some way and is touchingly optimistic about Lansbury.

A copy of Everybody's Book of Politics open at the History of the Labour Party. It reads that "Since the 1931 by-election results have indicated that the tide is again turning in the direction of Labour... and [the party] is now prepared for a decisive advance to power."

It is quite something watching someone pour these pints.

The problem with scaremongering is that you bluff can be called. Are landlords leaving the market? Even with the renter's rights bill, I suspect they'd struggle to find investments that are as low risk and high return, so, where are they going to go? www.theguardian.com/society/2025...
