A highlight from my camping trip was this visit to Orakei Korako. You can get unnervingly close to the boiling mud and thermal geysers, and hot damn is this planet of our ever weird.

Orange, brown and white earth with a thermal spring running across it. Steam rises from the centre, and a sinkhole or whirlpool is to the left. Green trees surround the pool and there are hills in the distance.

As a former cruising sailor I’m bound by law (the Law of the Sea) to say Captain Ron.
