The same phrase, “internal states that functionally mirror joy, satisfaction, fear”, could be said about 3D models of animated characters. Language models have no more inherent humanity than these character models do. They are computer programs designed to mimic human activity.

The Claude status page is a deuteranope’s nightmare, let me tell you. I can tell that different colors are in use, and I can guess those colors are green, red, and yellow (or orange?) but could I tell you what any specific color bar is? I cannot. And the overall effect is just painful visual noise.

Becoming a “Kardashev II-level civilization” is a bad goal, actually.

I find it mildly ironic that the map of states participating in the lawsuit is itself not accessible to people with certain forms of colorblindness. I can barely distinguish between the two colors on this map. FWIW to whoever produced the document.
