I really wish solutions to problems were not locked away in discords, so I didn't need to read things like this. 'the product is more important than the code', capitalism has completely ruined people's mind. Frightening how many people just want things made for them, with 0 effort or friction...

I enjoy programming, but I think I enjoy creating cool stuff more. I always had a lot of ideas I wanted to work on, but to do them all by hand would've taken a lifetime or two. Now with AI I can actually create so many things it's awesome. At first it took me a while to get used to, because in a way I was no longer feeling that dopamine of "I just created a very complex program and solved a lot of hard engineering issues along the way". But over time I realized the product is more important than the code, and now my dopamine is from creating cool things, not cool code

Can we like stop with these talking points? We already had code completion, regex, find and replace waaaay before LLMs. Good luck making sure it doesn't hallucinate something instead of properly replacing it.

No use of AI to generate substantial pieces of code

We require all code to be human authored. AI assistance should be limited to menial things (like code completion, regex, or find and replace).

What do you mean you'd generate everything if it would make a better game? You don't want to make a game, you just want someone else to do it for you. It pisses me off that they are trying to justify it too "Oh, I would use it more, but I don't, because I have standards". No you don't.

Statement against the use of generative AI

Cold Harbour is being made without the use of generative AI and will never include anything produced by AI. It is currently being created by a single person, so I can guarantee that all code, assets, or any other type of content will be made purely by humans.
I believe in art made by humans for humans and that's what Cold Harbour is going to be.

I am opposed to the widescale theft, exploitation, and the destruction of our environment that this technology is based on.
The current commercial AI models are fundamentally flawed and biased in a way that only benefits a small portion of the human population, the billionaire-class.

Furthermore, these AI models are used for military applications, most recently, during the ongoing genocide in Gaza and for the unlawful strikes in Iran, both of which resulted in the indiscriminate killings of civilians.
Because of these and a myriad of other reasons, there is no way to ethically use generative AI.

I also do not consent to have any part of Cold Harbour to be used for training purposes, in relation to generative AI or otherwise.

This is usually my go-to argument against AI. They made the machine that's incredibly good at math, bad at it. Also that explanation just makes my head hurt...

A google search result for the query 'was 2010 15 years ago' with the AI overview summary reading:
No, 2010 was not 15 years ago; it was 15 years ago in 2025, which makes it 14 years ago from the current year, 2024. The year 2010 was 15 years ago from the year 2025.
Here's the calculation for the current year: Current Year: 2025, Target Year: 2010, and Years Ago: 2025 - 2010 = 15 years.
So, the statement "2010 was 15 years ago" is correct in reference to the year 2025
