IESO is predicting the top of the demand curve is going to be sliced off from their earlier prediction. Now down to 25,923 MW. Class A participants are likely sitting on the benches waiting until later to curtail. /9

The top hour for the year in Ontario has just occurred at 1 PM EST (2 PM local) at 24,746 MW. Still hours to go in the day. IESO is forecasting 26,323 MW at 7 PM EDT. The record of 27,005 MW on August 1, 2006 is unlikely to be broken. /8
Interlude for the context of today's thread. It's possible some record all-time high temperatures will be broken today. Electricity all time peak since the current market opened in 2002 was 27,005 MW on August 1, 2006. Combo of conservation and loss of industry has kept it in check. /7
At 11 AM local time (10 AM standard time), we are slightly lagging the forecasted demand curve but at a similar slope, and have already entered into the band of top 10 Ontario peaks for this base period. /6
Ontario has scheduled the Save on Energy demand response programs to activate between 5 and 8 PM EDT. Picky nerd alert—it's megawatt, not megawatt-second, so please don't add the 's' on the end of the unit, IESO. 🤓 /5
I say "only" $300/MWh for today because on July 3 the price hit $500/MWh, and back on January 28 the peak price was $644/MWh and was above $300 even in the middle of the night, despite Ontario Demand being lower. Demand is only one part of the pricing. /4
Interestingly the day-ahead Ontario price is "only" spiking up to $300/MWh (that's 30¢ per kWh). Yesterday's peak price was very low at $100/MWh despite setting the second peak of the year. /3
As we start the business day at 8 AM, wind is contributing a decent amount at 1,686 MW. Baseload nuclear is 10,257 MW and won't change much. Expect gas generation to rise significantly beyond the 5,144 MW now. There's a touch of storage, a mere 1 MW. Solar is still waking up at 34 MW. /2

Sounds impressive, but following the reference tree of articles shows it's standard practice for ventilation. "13 air changes/day" = 0.54 ACH. The air exchangers are premium models of units required by most building codes in Canada. rosehill.nyc/press-posts/...
Ontario peak demand day over! Predicted was for 23041 MW at 5 PM EDT, actual max was *four* hours later, 22044 MW at 8 PM EDT. I had expected the predicted peak would be sliced off, but not that much!

Ooh curtailment happening earlier than I expected. Still several hours to go! Thunderstorms moved over Toronto may also have impacted demand.
