Possibly also of note — in the Audio Drama category, STAR TREK: KHAN is the only non-DOCTOR WHO finalist. Not sure if that’s to our advantage or our detriment. I guess we’ll find out in a month when the winners are announced at Comic-Con Int’l in San Diego.

FRINGE is smart, stylish, funny, weird, sometimes sweet, and occasionally heart-breaking (in a beautiful way). Great music, fun mysterious glyphs at the act breaks (they spell words!), and a tightly woven continuity that plants seeds in season one only to pay them off in season five. Good stuff.

I remember enjoying FRINGE during its original run on Fox. Now, having rewatched it, I can say this is one of my all-time favorite shows. Five seasons; 100 episodes, none of them stinkers, and some I consider classics: “Peter,” “White Tulip,” “6B,” and “There’s More than One of Everything.”

FRINGE has a terrific premise, like an updated X-FILES, but with more consistent world-building. It sets things up and pays them off beautifully. Great characters who grow and change, fun SF premises, delightful weirdness... one of the best executions of the alternate-universe concept.

Last night I finished a weeks-long rewatch of the Fox series FRINGE (2008–2013), created by J.J. Abrams and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci, and starring Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, and Jasika Nicole. Put simply: I’d forgotten how brilliant this series is. It’s a masterpiece.

Some fans have expressed mild confusion re: who’s being referenced in the vague first paragraph of this book’s summary. The first two (the child mourning her mother & the “scion of privilege”) are new characters created for this tale. The “young Starfleet officer” is Kirk (but only in the prologue).

For those of you who have Prime Video, check out “Spider-Noir” in crisp black-and-white — it’s absolutely fantastic. Fun and stylish, one of the best TV series from the Marvel team yet.

OTD 24 years ago, I went to a friend’s birthday party; there I met Kara, a moment that changed both our lives for the better.
