Plants 🌱, personal pablum, less politics than before. Plural, ADDled, #bipolar... In a strange relationship with Madness. #DisabledInBusiness #ShameSlayer #WorthWhisperer Gay & sex-positive. No trans hate! He/they (we) davidmordecai.com ✊🏾🏳️🌈🇯🇲🇨🇦
One of my staff is comfortable wearing a respirator so we did get some work done. I don't believe in insisting people work in circumstances that they are uncomfortable in. [video pans across a curbside native plant and pollinator garden and briefly shows me in a mask.]
🌱 Another cool plant #FloweringNow at the Toronto Botanical Gardens Onopordon acanthium, the Cotton or Scotch Thistle
🌱 Calycanthus floridus: the eastern sweetshrub, Carolina allspice, or spicebush, #FloweringNow at Toronto Botanical Gardens, one of my favourites!
Jobsite for the first half of today. Thank goodness it wasn't too hot. [video of a penthouse terrace with multiple pines in large square containers with a portion of the downtown Toronto skyline in the background.
The rain finally came back... [brief video of fairly heavy rain falling on a parking lot where construction is happening... people dodge in front of the camera]
When the weather changes your workday plans and so you call your friend, and he makes you lunch...
🌱 An unusual plant I planted several years ago that I was happy to see finally thriving: Campanula 'Pink Octopus'
They want us to believe that AI will solve all the world's problems and yet they haven't managed to get it to tell the past from the future. It's July 1st in our world.
I am exhausted, but this garden I designed, that we were working in today, does make it worth it.
Tonight will be an extra-medicated sleep. Bipolar mood is euthymic but it’ll start kicking up if I don’t get more than 3 hours of sleep tonigh, and I have to be up no later than 5AM. [Selfie vid of me in an elevator talking about recent long work days and gratitude at getting a well-needed haircut.]
A lot going on and almost forgot it was Father's Day. RIP Pops. 18 November, 1942 – 19 February, 2021.
🌱 Still pic of the largest climbing hydrangea I have ever seen, from the garden I was in yesterday. I estimate at least 40 feet and maybe more. The tree is a giant oak.
🌱 Volunteering at Through The Garden Gate in the Beach today. I am the gardener answering questions in a lovely ravine garden.
Our team going forward this season. We have two very occasional staff who could not join us today and we do expect to hire one more this season. Three peeps have moved on to jobs in other cities.
Which is good, since @cpattonnyc.bsky.social is visiting me, just for the weekend, and talking was painful yesterday!
🌱 And the obligatory CN Tower picture. If you are a gardener in, or visiting, Toronto, the Music Garden is a must-see!
🌱 Second video of my visit to the Toronto Music Garden this morning. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it! [Video takes you on a tour of the garden showing perennial flower beds that are in winding shapes.]
🌱 From my visit to the Toronto Music Garden this morning. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it! [Video takes you on a tour of the garden showing perennial flower beds that are in winding shapes.]
Got a photo with one of the filmmakers (who was adorable) thanks to my ever-documenting friend on the far left.
🌱 Pruning results on Cotinus coggygria — Smoke Tree — a bit more than a month later. Later winter pruning is a wonder.
🌱 Video of my visit to the Bonsai show at the Toronto Botanical Gardens [shows a variety of bonsai and dwarfed perennials.] I mis-identified a plant, I realized afterwards that it’s likely a Tiarella, not a Geranium (duh).
#HashHow #SanityIsSocial is an old #Hashorism but #InsanityIsInterstitial, arising from neglectful social gaps, is a #HashHatch Alongside a meditation on the how time interferes with our recognizing consciousness in things like plants, I have hit the ideation point on my bipolar scale. Extra PRN!
All done work. It was a long but not difficult day. Video shows pretty sky after sunset over the parking lot at my last work stop for the night.
This is sloppy empirical observation. Something akin to self-experience and even akin to ways of sensing reality is emerging with some AIs, but we will limit our ability to understand it if we don’t use an imaginative form of mentalization to distinguish what AIs do from biological consciousness.
