From The Times Politics morning brief, "rolling heatwaves and concomitant droughts (a sentence I never thought I’d write in this country)." Perhaps a sign you've not been paying attention to the very clear science and repeated warnings that exactly this would happen? Faster than predicted, in fact.
I got a bluetooth thermometer last Christmas and I've been tracking temperature in Teddington ever since. July 2026 the hottest since records began*. An average daily high of 30.1 degrees is wild. *this record began January 1st 2025
A classic polling result. "We spend too little on defence." "And would you like to pay for that with tax rises or spending cuts" "No thank you"
The pragmatic approach is to not do it @andyburnham.bsky.social. The oil and gas companies posting obscene profits today are lying to you about what drilling could do to bills. All it will do is increase their profits, and speed up the climate harms being felt by people across the UK right now.
The warmer weather this year is the best it's going to get. This will be one of the coldest years of the rest of your life. A Mediterranean climate is increasingly deadly.
Not every day you put a full page ad in a paper, but today is the kind of day you need to. A stable climate & a planet rich in nature is the only path to a world where people can thrive. Climate action is the only way to resilience, security & prosperity. All eyes on you, @andyburnham.bsky.social.
I cannot see how Richard Tice and Claire Coutinho look at this graph and say "nothing to see here, drill, baby, drill".
Church of England got it right. If your Archbishop is York it's the North. If it's Canterbury it's the South (and Midlands)
Labour factionalism alive and well. 'Gordon lost the election in 2010 and therefore can't possibly have any useful insight or ideas'. Same logic is applied to Ed Miliband. Would the 'normally loyal minister' say the same about bringing back Tony Blair?
If this result was interpreted the way English councils are then the media would be obsessing over whether the SNP needed to do more on immigration to appeal to Reform voters.
Putting fully in context, he also says what Putin is doing Ukraine "is also vile and needs to stop". But the sentiment that Putin is somehow not genocidal because he doesn't use those words is a painfully stupid thing to say.
Based on what we know of the No 10 operation it's entirely possible that both things are true. Huge pressure exerted by McSweeney while the PM (chose to) remain uninformed.
Is it just me, or does this look like government statement by ai? A classic em-dash. www.gov.uk/government/n...
Absolutely no perverse incentives that would just increase the number of legal challenges in this latest from Bright Blue.
This is editorialising from the BBC that doesn't really feel appropriate.
To wonder, to question as a daily practice of living is a radical political act. From the wonderful Intertidal by Yuvan Aves.
Yes. But for the majority of people they're as out of reach as a £100k salary seems (apart from in London). 0.6% of properties in NW. Plenty of people won't know anyone who owns a £1m house. Zoopla has 1 for sale in a v posh bit of Blackpool (other is a hotel). www.savills.co.uk/insight-and-...
Once again climate delayers on the right are forgetting about the existence of batteries.
I just think the BBC shouldn't illustrate their main news story with the hashtag of an organisation that promotes conspiracy theories about vaccines, 15-minute cities, ULEZ,'two-tier policing', 'No Farmers, No Food' and net zero.
HMT are so committed to the future of ODA they both got the name wrong *and* couldn't even be bothered to spellcheck that bit of the budget document.
Strange interaction this. Seemingly the Tory position is that #COP30 exists for Ed Miliband's self-promotion but multilateral initiatives like TFFF are good.
How could No 10 let something like this happen? They will have had sign off on William's speech. They could have found the money to invest in the fund.
Just re-reading Kemi Badenoch's Conference speech, and isn't this bit just a bit funny? It's really not clear what the policy is on climate action - do they want to scrap the CCC? Carbon budgeting in general? or just Net Zero in particular? These lines are just slogans with no actions attached.
A voice very much needed at this event at Conservative Party Conference yesterday.
How much does it cost Drax to park their train at Edge Hill as everyone leaves Labour Conference?
The tone of this from the BBC. Khan 'Has not announced any plans' could so easily be ready as he has them, they just aren't public yet. The tone of rebuttal really should be so much more decisive.
