Taking out the name because I don’t want to dunk on the person’s account, but private patios and open street closures are good for residents. Being able to enjoy food & drink outside might increase private profit but it provides a real public benefit too.

Festivals Kelowna does a great job with the various Canada Day stations. Great variety of food trucks, vendors, games for kids, music, cultural events. Looking forward to watching some island stage music later. Enjoy the way everyone!
City of Kelowna has expanded the bike valet today in terms of storage space, and it will be open until 11pm. Very happy to see that. Happy Canada Day!

Hit 1500 homes canvassed this evening. It’s tougher than it was 4 years ago, as I was able to work 7-3, not my current job of 8-4:30. But I will be able to take unpaid leave (as much as I can afford, that is) before election day this time. Thankfully, canvassing is fun! When you get cookies :)
Very happy with my time in the wine country half this morning. Great event, first official half I’ve ever done. Great views of the valley on Hart road. Would recommend.

It really is infuriating that parties accept ranked ballots in leadership elections but oppose the very same thing in general elections. STV is right there!
Beautiful evening in City Park after our monthly Strong Towns Kelowna bar night.
Bike valet is operating downtown and at the farmers market. Saturdays at the market for full hours, downtown is city-run with a variable schedule. I believe 1-9 Monday-Thursday and 9-9 Friday-Sunday. Great to see. Meet Me On Bernard is in full swing.
New portion of the City boardwalk is excellent. Really like the benches, new trees, and the split of the pedestrian and biking segments. Sets a new standard for what waterfront paths in Kelowna should be.
Downtown Dijon, between the narrow roads, very large amounts of pedestrianized (bollarded delivery-only daytime use) commercial/residential streets, patios, urban parks, and a couple decent mini e-bus routes, feels special by smaller European urbanism standards. Very very nice.
Almost speaks for itself. Bungling the issue and the messaging has completely eroded public confidence.

Both gerrymandering by border and gerrymandering by riding quotient skew should be unconstitutional, but neither are. In fact, the courts have all but confirmed that both are acceptable. It’s absolutely something that should be fixed before it spirals out of control.
After thinking on it a more, I tend to lean to the idea that waiting 10 years for a second-class BRT, more than 20 years for an ITDP-gold BRT, is too long for both Richter and the highway. These timelines are very long. Should be built in 5ish years, along with the new bus yard.
When our best and brightest (including some of my own friends) are constantly drawn to higher returns and greener pastures elsewhere, we need to look in the mirror and figure out why Canada isn’t attractive for them to stay. Brain drain leads to long-term decline.
