“That’s an exaggeration.” Blair said, her voice weak and reedy.

“An exaggeration? You pushed me against the wall. You lifted me off the ground! If that's not an undeniable attraction, I fear for the girl you actually like!"

Blair blushed but said nothing.

“We are all in bed with the countess,” Nadia heard her voice rising.

“But you choose to go back for more to keep your sexy little ass safe and sound.” Hester added.

Nadia tried to bring her volume back to a polite level, and failed. “We are going to die. The countess wants me for whatever reason. So not fighting the ancient immortal being keeps me alive. So playing along with her games keeps me alive. How is that some great betrayal?”

Hester stepped back and put a hand to her chest. Her lips curled into a gasp.

“And who has the countess’ ear? Who do the guards listen to among us girls? You want us to believe what? That you earned those favors without leading the countess to pick other girls first?”

Anniversary dinner complete! I had tuna tartare, seared steelhead, and strawberry mousse. I did not remember to get a pic of the steelhead. My wife had a fancy toast thing, veal Milanese, and a chocolate mousse. I also had a Last Word, a Caipirinha, and a lemon drop martini. I am drunk.

Today my wife and I celebrate our 15 year anniversary. 🩷😱🩷 She is taking me out to dinner tonight! I got her roses, and an opal necklace! She got me 2 sets of jasper earrings! I am so lucky!🩷 It doesn't feel lile 15 years... which is wild because it's actually longer! We started dating in 2003!

Nadia nodded, “Her aura lowers inhibitions. You would do things in her presence that you would otherwise only think to yourself. Resisting the charms of the countess is near impossible. All the girls here have succumbed to her at some point.”

Blair shook her head, “You mean that you’ve- succumbed?”

Nadia turned away, “We all succumb. We’re only mortals after all. She has centuries of power on her side.”

Nadia paused and Blair thought she saw the princess shudder. “You might even enjoy it. Many of us girls do. She is very skilled at what she does.”

“And regret it after,” Blair said.

“We’ve all done things we regret,” Nadia answered, not turning back.

Blair couldn’t keep track of the room as they flowed across the dance floor. The music seemed to fill the space. The countess’s perfume pervaded every inch of Blair’s skin. The breeze from their dance lifted prickles along Blair’s exposed nape and neck. And then the music stopped. And Blair felt all pent up with nowhere to go.

The countess rolled her head back, exposing her neck to Blair. “What do you want, little hunter?”

Blair felt as though they were back in her dreams. Blair felt something inside her. The feeling pulled her forward. She wrapped her arms around the countess. She leaned in to press kisses across the countess’s exposed neck. The countess moaned. Blair continued kissing.

“We’re on our own then,” Blair said.

“I can think of worse people to be alone with.” Nadia said, smiling at Blair.

Blair coughed and asked, “Where is everybody?”

Blair dresses for practicality and combat most of the time. So there was only a single sequence that fit the bill.

Blair clenched her teeth at the remark, but said nothing. She found a lavender ballgown she liked. It had a square neckline and she wouldn’t be in danger of falling out of the dress as a result. She looked back again at the countess, who hadn’t moved. The immortal made a shooing gesture with her hand at Blair and smiled- showing her fangs. Blair took a breath, held it, and then released. And then she began to strip down to her undergarments. Tailors made monster hunter gear for practical use. This was true from the armor down to the unmentionables. And as she finished undressing, Blair stood in unglamorous but sturdy white underwear. Blair began to struggle into the gown, but dressing for formal events had never been her strong suit. She was about to curse in frustration, when she felt the countess’ hands buttoning her gown up from behind. Blair looked back, the countess had moved too fast for Blair to see again. The immortal now stood, buttoning Blair into her gown.

“A color to match your perfume. Do you have a favorite flower perhaps?” The countess asked.

Blair flinched. She did love lavender, both the color and the flower. But admitting it seemed as though it might somehow weaken her.

Instead of answering, Blair asked. “Shouldn’t a maid be here to help?”

“I would not deprive myself of this pleasure.” The countess said, finishing the buttons on Blair’s gown.

“This kind of feels like cheating.” Blair said.

“It is my game,” The countess answered. “I am allowed to cheat. I make the rules. And only I break them.”

Blair felt her breath quicken, as she felt the countess’s fingers against her skin.
