Was recently back in Chester le Street for a rare Summer visit. 😍

Photo of a tall gothic church spire with arched windows below and several doors at ground level. Lovely blue sky behind. (It's been a hot summer even in the North East of England!) This is St Mary's and St Cuthbert's at Chester le Street, Co. Durham. Monks removed from Lindisfarne by Viking raids settled here in the 10thC within old Roman walls for protection. The enlarged and rebuilt church has remained on the site ever since.

How to describe this paintong for low vision users? At first it looks like a random jumble of shapes. But there is a figure in an interior in reds and greens with some pale shades of pink, green and blue, which are mostly in the background. The figure and face is just a minimal line drawing.

Went to the #TishMurtha exhibition at @balticgateshead.bsky.social today. Important and brutally honest social commentary of 1980s Newcastle at a time of searing social change. Painfully enlightening even for those of us who lived through it.

Our sanctuary from the heat today - the crypt of Winchester Cathedral (which was still flooded a few weeks ago) with Antony Gormley's deeply moving Sound II Water rises through the figure's body into his hands. Gorgeous. #ArtMatters #Art #ECK
