Spot the difference: two difference author portraits for the same book by the same author, published in the same year in the same place. Giacomo di Grassi's "Ragione adoprar sicuramente l'Arme," printed in Venice in 1570 by Giorgio di'Cavalli... or is it Giordano Ziletti?
It was boiling in the V&A reading room yesterday and today wasn't terribly better BUT that didn't stop me from looking at books.
A few years ago I was given a woodblock print of Qiu Jin, done by the Zhejiang artist Huang Shang in 1978. I wish her poetry was more widely available in English.

Having discovered a friend at church is a relative of the late Guyanese poet and literary figure A.J. Seymour, she shared a book of his poetry with me. We discussed one of her (and his) favorites, "I heard a rooster call" - a fitting start to Palm Sunday and Holy Week.
Classical Chinese folks, how would you render 天下溺援之以道， 人民愚訓之以經 here? CCPosters goes with "the world is drowning and it needs the Word to save it. If the people are fools, teach them with Bible" but that feels quite simplistic. I'm having trouble parsing the 訓之以經 and 援之以道.

Re: your other post about things like tectonic theory, the Catechism further argues that Christ's knowledge was bound by time and place - the human Christ did not know all things, nor could he. This isn't "error." Those things he should know, he did, and those he shouldn't, didn't.
Against my better judgement I snagged two leaves from the Great Bible of 1539 at the Empire State book and print fair. Selections from the Psalms, in that old familiar Coverdale language.
In trying to track down some books belonging to Boies Penrose II I've looked up his more famous uncle and honestly the US just doesn't make this type of guy anymore - who eats a dozen eggs for breakfast and a turkey at lunch and drinks enough bourbon to kill lesser men?
