“He doesn’t drink.”
“I’m sure he could be persuaded with one of the Duchy’s famous ambers.”
“Should you insist on gifting him a bottle, let it be a Denibrae claret. So that I may drink it when he refuses it.”

The colorful man again turned a sharp eye to them, then focused wholly on Aneska and stepped forward to offer her a hand. Aneska took it lightly, and he clasped it between both of his own.
“Lord Mage to the Duchy Danelia, Gently Softstep,” he introduced with a theatrical bow.
Crow, standing just at the periphery of the man, locked eyes with Penance with a withering stare that made Penance press his mouth firmly together in an attempt not to smile. As if Crow had said it aloud, he heard in his gaze, these are not serious people.

they're cute

Word of their arrival spread at an alarming rate. They stood in a grand foyer, waiting as attendants rushed past and whispered to one another, sending unsubtle glances their way, some pausing to baldly stare. Penance plucked at his veil. More than anything, in his traveling boots on the shining marble floor and the hem of his cassock somewhat tattered and his underlayers sticking to him, he felt dirty. He imagined his companions did not fare much better, though Aneska had adopted a straight-backed posture with her hands folded in front of her, looking more like a young lady belied by her muddy boots.
“Perhaps it’s a boon of the cold that the Lamb does not have fleas after our long trek,” Crow commented as he tucked an errant tuft of hair into Aneska’s crown braid.
She swatted cattishly at his hand. “Too bad the servants of the holy pilgrimage are not so fortunate.”
“I fear the Hand of God might have had them before we’d even left.”
“Uncouth,” Penance rebuked, but could not hide the wry smile that tugged at his mouth.
