The monsoons can be really fabulous, but one side effect is bastard arachnids getting lofty ideas about moving in with you. Luckily one of my cats was on guard duty tonight, alerted me, & I bugcatched the f*cker. I was merciful & escorted the invader outside. I demand good karma for that.

Spent the day at the Phoenix Wushu Nationals cheering on a family member who competed. Enjoyed watching all the talented athletes.

I went to Five Below today looking for something on behalf of my sister. Stumbled across a line to get into the store. Apparently a Wonka-like contest for a golden dumpling. So I figured, what the heck, I'll buy a mystery dumpling too.

After a scorcher week, this is what the freesia and irises look like now. And it's still going to be in the high 90s all week. #PhoenixGarden

The formerly bright yellow freesia flowers are still blooming but faded to almost white petals with yellow tinges. Next to them is a light purple Dutch iris, also faded from a previously rich purple color. The yellow center blotch on the petals is still bright. The flowers are surrounded by yellowing and browning leaves.

We've got some lovely purple phacelia crenulata and bright orange California poppies blooming right now. But we're gonna hit record 100 degree temps much of this next week, so all bets are off on what survives or thrives. I certainly won't be thriving in the unwanted early heat. #PhoenixGarden

Last weekend, I went to the Arizona Renaissance Festival. First time in ages. I still want all the swords.

Ugh. The tulips were growing slowly and now Phoenix is having a record breaking heatwave and unfortunately it's killing them before they can even bloom. #PhoenixGarden

I made a vegan version one year, vanilla cake w/ a hint of orange, raspberry buttercream middle, & chocolate ganache + marzipan mushrooms & mint sprigs for decorations. I had never tried it before. It tasted heaps better than it looks here. The chocolate ganache was so shiny! Lol #KidLitChat

I've mostly been decorating the inside of my stomach with Halloween, but I did pick up a cute lil pumpkin and ghost with an air plant. I usually try to stick to plants I can water infrequently but it was too cute, so I'll try the weekly misting as instructed.
