The monsoons can be really fabulous, but one side effect is bastard arachnids getting lofty ideas about moving in with you. Luckily one of my cats was on guard duty tonight, alerted me, & I bugcatched the f*cker. I was merciful & escorted the invader outside. I demand good karma for that.
Got my shingles vax and stumbled across a rare archeological find!
Spent the day at the Phoenix Wushu Nationals cheering on a family member who competed. Enjoyed watching all the talented athletes.
I went to Five Below today looking for something on behalf of my sister. Stumbled across a line to get into the store. Apparently a Wonka-like contest for a golden dumpling. So I figured, what the heck, I'll buy a mystery dumpling too.
My neph-tortoise, Chomp, demolishing a hibiscus flower. His favorite! #SonoranDesertTortoise
Yes, this is a desert. Yes, we have pelicans. Sometimes. #MigratoryBirds
Selfie with my girl Nikita. She's 16 & diabetic. We've been re-regulating her glucose levels the past couple weeks. Hoping we're done with unexpected vet visits for a while.
For my recent humorous PB, my character has definitely learned NADA. #KidLitHahaWeek
These pinkladies or pink evening primroses are showing up. They don't hate the 100F degree days in March like I do. #PhoenixGarden
This is a dance off! If you see this, repost a dance or you’re eliminated!
After a scorcher week, this is what the freesia and irises look like now. And it's still going to be in the high 90s all week. #PhoenixGarden
Lots of bright yellow in the garden right now. Desert Brittlebush and Desert Marigold. #PhoenixGarden
Another beautiful purple Dutch iris and some cheerful yellow freesia flowers blooming. #PhoenixGarden
We've got some lovely purple phacelia crenulata and bright orange California poppies blooming right now. But we're gonna hit record 100 degree temps much of this next week, so all bets are off on what survives or thrives. I certainly won't be thriving in the unwanted early heat. #PhoenixGarden
This dutch iris says, "Tulips?! You don't need no wimpy tulips. I'll take your 90 degree winter and thrive." #PhoenixGarden
Last weekend, I went to the Arizona Renaissance Festival. First time in ages. I still want all the swords.
Ugh. The tulips were growing slowly and now Phoenix is having a record breaking heatwave and unfortunately it's killing them before they can even bloom. #PhoenixGarden
I made a vegan version one year, vanilla cake w/ a hint of orange, raspberry buttercream middle, & chocolate ganache + marzipan mushrooms & mint sprigs for decorations. I had never tried it before. It tasted heaps better than it looks here. The chocolate ganache was so shiny! Lol #KidLitChat
The paperwhites are back! Bulbs for other flowers have been planted too, but the paperwhites currently have the stage. #PhoenixGarden
Afternoon snack. Strawberry Italian soda with nondairy cream and a sugar cookie. Yum!
I've mostly been decorating the inside of my stomach with Halloween, but I did pick up a cute lil pumpkin and ghost with an air plant. I usually try to stick to plants I can water infrequently but it was too cute, so I'll try the weekly misting as instructed.
Kinda wishing I had a little bit of Aeon Flux going. Then maybe I'd have caught the little flying bug with my eyelashes instead of getting sucker punched in the eyeball.
