A lifetime in the trades means lunch packed every day. Many of those years as an owner dictates a flask of good whiskey and a couple of good cigars, because you never know who you will encounter before the day is over.
It is customary to be disparaging of the Confederacy and demeaning towards those who fought. I get it, but, some of us have blood kin who were in the game and killed in action. The Great War of Northern Aggression rings true in these parts.
In the days of my wasted youth I was extended no end of grace by the adults around me. When I became an employer I paid it forward. Prison, foster care, mental illness; if your attitude was right, I gave you a chance. Some have now been with me over 30 years
I'm getting a little bit too old to tent camp, so I've decided to recreate the experience in the backyard. Dammit man, this is great. I can have my fire and my whiskey and sleep my own bed. Who knew?!
I am in the trades. For years I have searched for the perfect flashlight and the perfect knife. I have found both. The Leatherman Arc, and the Pokkilite. Finally. Peace.

For those of us on the blue collar side of the house....surreal. KARK and KTHV have shared space atop the same tower since they were built. Joint occupancy for 70 years or so. In this shot I'm standing on KTHV with KARK below me.
20 years ago this week. No road signs standing, no GPS, and certainly no clue what we were in for. We made it out a month later free of gunshot injury. #towerdogs. #Katrina.
Mother's Day. 52 years is a long time. A fusillade, and when the smoke cleared she and Dad were both dead on the floor. We still celebrate her every year, and wish so much that things could have been different.

I service my Monroe 10 key adding machine today and I got to admit I feel pretty accomplished. I understand that technology has passed me by, but there's just something to be said for the old 10 key with a paper tape.
Lots of noise about micro plastic accumulation in the body these days. If you are local, Spring water in 5 gallon glass is only $15.00 with exchange. I buy mine 30 gal at a time. If you don't want to drive to HS, there is a spring in the 3800 block of MLK in Little Rock where you can fill.
Sunday mornings in our town still come with a newspaper on the porch and hot coffee. I always look for my favorites, like @gwenfordfaulk.bsky.social , who writes so beautifully. Today was no exception.

All around town there are little mini-food pantries. My wife considers those her mission field. :)
My men and I, on the way to Hodge, Louisiana this week, stopped at every convenience store we could to sample the gizzards. We could find no gizzard that compared with those at the Forest Tower Shell station, North of Sheridan, Arkansas. Flummoxed we were as to why theirs were so perfect.
Sometimes I worry about the future of the United Methodist Church, then, something like this comes along and snaps me out of it. #UMC.
