Helping Ireland innovate at IRDG. Previously grew Storyful, invested in deep tech, survived a decade in GE. Catalyst for the curious. Fan of Strategic Mischief, Books and the sea. Former lifeguard, still pulling people in.
Cheating and if it’s just one it’s the first one - Fact “Ireland A History” JJ Lee. Jaw dropping for me as I read it. Fiction “Small Things Like These” Claire Keegan. As close to perfection as language can come. Visual “The Silver Arm” Jim Fitzpatrick outside the sanitised myths I’d heard as a kid
Well things have always been hiding there. This popped up in my memories from 2015 - I live-streamed this popup interview on Twitter and had a few hundred people tuned in at one point
This is the Strait that leads to the Suez Canal. So effectively it’s The Ever Given but with missiles and depending on Trump to get it fixed.
If I put a few servers in the garden it’s a commercial data centre right ?
Saw this and went “the picture on the right is supposedly to evoke cool. On what planet is 32 DEGREES CELSIUS COOL?” This is immediate fried versus boil in 10 minutes. In Ireland with humidity that’s a feels like temperature of “kill me now”
The entire might of Wall Street (main character in such hits as 'The Wall Street Crash' and the 'The Global Financial Crash') are clearly taking another swing for the fences
Not a big cat photo person but these are two photos one of my kids took on his first holiday abroad to Greece. Also Happy Birthday!!
We need to go back to treating those who have "legitimate concerns" as the idiots, morons, racists and homophobes they are. "You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons."
New self checkout cameras feel invasive and creepy. Extra plastic bag does the trick
Can I interest you in 85 million pounds of frozen meat now on fire for 5 days in California ? www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
This is my dad with my eldest the one time they met. Dad died suddenly a few weeks later. The babe in arms graduates college in September. Happy Father’s Day to fathers that are here and fathers that are gone. To those of us with and without, to those who are or who were or who will be. Love to all.
From what I heard people whose homes it flew over hated it. Liz McCarthy founder and first CEO of Scale Ireland who is pretty positive on tech had this to say about Manna (on LinkedIn)
Biggest pushback I saw was from the general public. These were Bobby's own quotes over the help and support over the last few years. Its feels healthy for people to look at a technology and decide the negative externalities outweigh the narrow benefits
On Bloomsday I find myself considering if I need to learn Basque* to read this graphic novel on Joyce. This despite never having read Joyce. *not available in English as far as I can see. It is in Spanish which I’ll probably learn instead
After seeing snippets of the NBA finals (wife is big fan) feels like Trumpy things like WWE and Cage Fighting are Consolation Medals for fake trash who can't compete in the real world, in real sports and who can't function as adults. Fake sports for fake men whose emotional maturity stopped at 12
In a boss move the Pope, clearly taking umbridge at my comments (see thread below) has arrived in Madrid the same day as me. Chapeau Leo
Between buses named after hobbit characters, street protests and an on the nose view of Trump I’m liking northern Spain. They even arranged rain after 30 degrees yesterday. See you all next month
Who knew the Spanish are better prepared for the rain than the Irish (yes the umbrella inside is a joke but honestly with umbrella stands and covers everywhere yep it feels like a better prepared place)
