Attempted murder.

Two crows on some very yellow grass. I think they're crows anyway. Are the ones with the grayish beaks crows or rooks? Let's call them crows because otherwise the joke fails.

Since I mentioned the baking tray full of water for wildlife in this heatwave, I've been seeing more and more plastic tubs and foil trays of water left under trees and on grassy areas. This pairing made me chuckle.

Sadly I startled the flock of starlings that were having a wonderful time cooling off in this baking tray of water some benevolent soul left outside. Must remember to do this myself in this awful heat. #SpéirGhorm

It's a silver baking beside the shadow of a tall thin tree on a patch of rather parched looking grass. It's one of those cheap flimsy pop-the-whole-dinner-in-the-oven type trays, completely clean. It's been filled with water. Not pictured: the flock of starlings having a lovely splash and generally being adorable until my walking past made them scatter.

It's a photograph of some very nice mushrooms in a patch of grass. They are brown on top with a creamy white underside. The caps are wide and vaguely circular and curl gently at the edges. I have no idea what kind of mushrooms they are and chose not to find out what they taste like.

I would give Muhammed some clue that all was not right with it - perhaps his hummus goes off prematurely or water collects under the vegetable crisper. Something to make Muhammed replace the fridge. Then I would give those who died on the top floors a reason not to be home. I would have had the fire on the day of Carnival and encouraged those on the top floors to be part of the festivities. I'd let the husbands who left their wives and families home to earn some money on night shifts or driving cabs find a little extra money in their accounts, so that night they'd have taken their children out for shawarma and orange juice down Marble Arch, while they smoked shisha and talked about how good their lives felt. All the children who died would have visited their grandparents that day, here or abroad. I'd make the cladding that burned like dry straw be fireproofed to international standards; let life and love continue in Grenfell.

A medieval round watchtower connected to a medieval defensive wall. The tower is clearly very old, as is the wall- not a ruin, but heavily marked with age and wear. The tower and wall stand behind a modern fence, with two information signs detailing its history and presenting illustrations of how it looked in the past. Two modern rooftops can be glimpsed behind the tower, and the sky above is bright blue. This is Talbot's tower, one of the guard towers at the walls of Kilkenny city, that stood from the 1200s until the mid 1600s when Cromwell ruined the city walls as he ruined so many things, the git.

Stumbled upon this at my local public library. Who can resist? @effinbirds.com

A sky blue paperback book on a plain white table. The author's name, Aaron Reynolds, is in white letters. The book name - EFFIN BIRDS: a field guide to identification - is in big yellow letters and white lettering. There is a brief endorsement on the cover from Chuck Wendig, author of 'Wanderers', who calls the book "probably the best thing ever." And there are birds. Effin birds. A bluebird telling you to "eat farts". A sparrowhawk declaring "you are insufferable". What might be a yellowhammer posing prettily while silently judging you. Other birds I can't identify saying things like "this is my surprised face", "not today", and "I AM A GODDAMED DELIGHT!" Maybe I'll be better at identifying them once I've read the effin guide.

See this? Quote with your ghost art. Okay fine this is probably not up to the standards of most other quoters but it's 100% genuine ghost art by me!

Me starting 2026 / Me 3 months into 2026

A Little Owl stands against a pale golden brown sandy backdrop tha5 compliments its tawny brown and buff feathers perfectly. Its eyes have huge black pupils ringed by palest gold. It looks adorable and somehow sweet and hopeful.

An arid expanse of sandy brown soil under a dirty brown backdrop. The top of the head of a burrowing owl can be seen peeping out from a concealed burrow. Its brown feathers and beak all but blend in with the harsh dry soil. Its bright yellow eyes stand out strongly, fixed on you with a hostile glare. The bird’s expression is a mixture of outrage that you have dared to approach its personal space and horror that you exist.

Gutted to hear we’ve lost Peter David after a long illness. From Star Trek to Marvel Comics, his work had an indelible impact on me. He had a particular gift for humanising even the most unlikeable or neglected characters, making them resonate with an audience like no one else could.

If you're in Kilkenny next week I highly recommend dropping into the Butler Gallery to see Siren by Ursula Burke. Grecio-Roman inspired and informed by her life in post conflict Northern Ireland, its language of division and post conflict despair could not be more timely nor important. #SpéirGhorm

In the foreground is a four tiered stand finishing in a single slender column. Each tier, and the column, is topped with small sculptures and ceramics. In the background is a room with white walls. A tapestry can be seen on the left and right wall. The back wall is painted with tears of blue acrylic paint weeping from the ceiling. Just in front there is a separate white standing wall, with a painting in blue acrylic of rocky cliffs and a lake. A small mosaic and twin tapestries framed in a triptych sits on the wall, framed by the larger painting.
