making @megaknockdown.com with @alanmcmillian.bsky.social i post about fighting games, indie games, and other stuff.
Was having some trouble with this combo route yesterday (kept missing the microdashes..) but then something clicked and then I started hitting it in matches sorta consistently
GRD is probably my favorite system mechanic in any fighter. you build it up mostly by playing well, and if you're ahead whenever the timer circle ticks down, you do extra damage and get to "chain shift" once, which is basically a really strong roman cancel that also gives you meter.
The indie FGC came together to bring you a Community Combo Video! From traditional, to platform, and unique spins on the genre, you can see what we're cooking up! Which is your favorite? (Credit: DeguzmanDayniel made this and posted it on the other site, just sharing it here.) #fgc #indiegames 💪🕹️
uni 2 tutorial is not so different from uni 1 but it's still one of the best tutorials in any fighting game ever
Listening to @pattheflip.bsky.social essay readings on a long drive home makes one feel like a movie/tv character listening to motivational tapes
I will defer to shmup fans on what is normal for them but because nobody in this thread has posted this image yet, I will do so. In practice you probably aren't riding the gate with all your inputs anyway.
playing a little bit of vsav for the first time in a long time. sasquatch is still my favorite
All character animations in Mega Knockdown are overrides on top of a 'base layer' populated with placeholder Jerma greenscreen sprites. I can't remove these "Load Bearing Jermas" without rebuilding my entire animation system.
vampire crawlers is funny because i can't think of too many games where i've sunk 20 hours, got 100% achievements and then been like.. yeah, it was ok
the last time i used a stock image i had to basically fuckin geoguesser the location of this background photo in NYC's google maps to verify that it was real, because just searching for royalty free skylines barfs out a bunch of fictional AI ones now
Was having a very competitive and high scoring game of scrabble and then borris came up and sat on the board lol
Mega Knockdown actually started out as basically a board game jam game as part of a local game design competition, and I'll admit that I was salty that it didn't win anything. But the process helped me iterate on and playtest what would eventually become the digital game.
Congrats to all who submitted something to the #FightingGameAprilJam2026, especially if it's your first 'shipped' game. I played, rated and left feedback on all 60 games and I was impressed with many of them. Even at the lower end of the rankings, most games had good ideas or did something well.
