Hell, explain to me why 2025's Youngblood Deluxe serialized Joe Casey's 2008 reworking of the original 1992 mini-series, but hasn't itself been collected in an affordable new volume?
So, I hope Seth Damoose is doing most of the plotting himself, and that he doesn't turn out to have the concerning politics of several other Liefeld collaborators. I hope this produces enough material for me to pick up a trade, and that it actually explores the character. Or, y'know, dollar bin 2027
Liefeld has never been a writer of even minimum competence, and having read issues of his latest Youngblood relaunch, he's somehow gotten worse. He's notorious for producing "ongoing" series that run 0-4 issues. Badrock vol. 1 lasted 2 issues, & I think #1 just reprinted a Hero Illustrated serial?
It's not that Badrock has no potential, & he's not just a Ben Grimm rip-off, but couching a nigh middle-aged concept in those terms is damning in itself. The simple fact is that without an actual writer involved, especially with Rob Liefeld attempting that role, this book need not (& won't?) exist.
I can't help but get a tingle whenever the prospect of a revitalized Image Comics superhero universe rears its head. Despite The Spawnometer podcast being stalled out, I have read most every Badrock solo comic ever made, across nearly 35 years of history. Nobody on this Earth needs a Badrock comic.
Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos ran 167 issues, starting the same month The Wasp was introduced in 1963, through until 1981. The longest lasting book with S.H.I.E.L.D. in the title ran 47 issues, and if you combined every volume, the issue count would come to less than half Sgt. Fury's. Huh.
