People are jumping all over the vetting process but let's not lose sight of this absolutely cartoonish idea of what makes a convincing candidate. These are not serious people.

So there was a lot of conversation and thought around how the kind of candidate who could win Maine would be a veteran, they would be someone from outside of the Portland area — ideally, a community in which Trump won — and someone tied to an industry that has a specific resonance in Maine.

An unprincipled ass-kissing legacy is all he leaves behind

frontrunner. He condemned Trump as a
"jackass":
', "a race-baiting bigot" and "the
most flawed nominee in the history of the Republican party"
', memorably warning on
Twitter: "If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed ... and we will deserve it." Trump, in turn, dismissed Graham as an "idiot" and a
"lightweight".
But the relationship was transformed after Trump entered the White House and Graham became one of the president's closest confidants. He emerged as a key adviser on foreign policy, particularly Iran and Russia. He also rallied the defence of Trump's embattled nominee for the supreme court, Brett Kavanaugh, in 2018.
Graham wobbled only after Trump's supporters staged an insurrection at the US
Capitol on 6 January 2021 in an effort to overturn his election defeat. The senator declared: "Trump and I, we've had a hell of a journey - I hate it to end this way. Oh my God, I hate it. From my point of view, he's been a consequential president but today, first thing you'll see. All I can say is count me out.
Enough is enough."
His rebellion did not last, however, and he refused to vote to convict Trump at the

which both society and the Church came to denounce the scourge of slavery. In antiquity and the Middle Ages many individuals and even ecclesiastical institutions had slaves. Already in the early modern period, the Apostolic See of Rome, responding to requests from Sovereigns, intervened several times in order to regulate and legitimize forms of subjugation, and, in certain cases, the enslavement of "infidels."174 It was only in the nineteenth century that a formal, absolute and universal condemnation of slavery was clearly articulated, notably under Pope Leo

This development offers a clear example of the Church's growth in understanding the perennial truths of Revelation that she safeguards. Although there was not always consistency in practice - given that slavery was long tolerated before being unequivocally condemned — there has been a continuous affirmation throughout history of the dignity of every human being, created in the image of God, even if it took eighteen centuries for its full incompatibility with slavery to be explicitly recognized. Amazing that he can't bring himself to say Dawn Staley's name or to apologize to her specifically.

"There's no excuse for how I handled the end of the game vs. South Carolina. It's unlike what I do and what our standard is here at Connecticut. I want to apologize to the staff and the team at South Carolina. It was uncalled for in how I reacted.
