Hey so if you’re in Los Angeles my friend Ed is in a absolutely heartbreaking version of PROOF at the El Portal theater in the valley He’s playing a man w dementia and Ed himself has Parkinson’s His fragility brings an intense immediacy to the performance that’s riveting His daughters great too
Any of these people could talk about and I’d be absolutely delighted (I wish i could quit you NYRB)

We saw a great singer from there, Cesaria Evora in the late 90s or early 2000s They set up a cafe table & chair onstage & half way through her concert she sat & enjoyed a cigarette and a glass of wine and watched her band play for a bit When the crowd laughed she shrugged like “what?”

Watching STREET SCENE and Sylvia Sidney is absolutely brilliant in it To set the scene: her characters mother has just been murdered in the building she’s on the steps of here The editor hugh Bennett stays on her coverage knowing that she’s the story here not Bondi This is as good as it gets
