(and the second) I actually did that one first despite it coming after lol. The storyboard was much simpler, so I wondered if I could add a bit more action to it and it was generously approved with some tweaks to make it less erratic.
The FX for the beam preparing itself was inspired by how the Dweller would do it in the game, with some liberties added inspired by one of Akihiro Ota's cut on One Piece (www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/21...). I'm so glad Nicolas (the FX artist) liked it and kept most of my rough going into it.
I'm not sure what was more challenging to do between the fabric and hair floating in the wind... or the monster with ten billion tentacles 😂 I tried grouping them together when I could...
I would also like to shoutout Spencer Wan, Curie Lu and Vercreek for their inspiring animation skills to which I studied religiously in hope to muster at least 1% of their power for this. (1st cut Moyara only with no camera movement because I'm damn proud of it)
The latest update to Sea Of Stars came out with an new intro cinematic to which I participated in as a rough animator! Here's my contribution.
If I had to guess as to why I didn't get chosen, perhaps it's because I have a hard time drawing "moe" / Ghibli-like characters instead of more traditional anime styles / semi-realistic figures. Or that I did not flesh out the second scene as much as the first one, with only one key pose-
I applied for a job offering from Lofi Studio and got asked to do some test key poses for them back in december but didn't hear back from them after several weeks. I haven't signed any NDAs so I think it's fine to show them here.
Also the little guy in the corner was used to better reference how he would walk. I was studying how Ryouma Ebata did his walks at the time because I liked the snap and bounciness of them.
It is pretty exaggerated but in the end, I think it looks better than what I envisioned in the board. He also used to not telegraph him revealing his claws, instead keeping them inside for the whole walk before "revealing" himself but I added that in to add more depth to the animation.
I think I've shared all that I can about this project. Perhaps I could make a write-up on how I composited some scenes but that'd take me some time which I don't have at the moment haha. Thank you for reading all my jargon for the past few days!
Various layout posings / corrections I did for the thesis film Aigrefins.
Afterwards, Gabrielle did another designs to which some of us did second passes on. After settling on some kind of "professional cunning spy thief that use disguises to infiltrate" personality, giving her some "sly" eyes was the direction we went towards.
Character exploration sketches for the maid character for Aigrefins.
