The baby stole my goose.
My MIL spotted a coyote trotting through Olympic Village this morning. Skinny baby! Keep your cats inside, folks.
The flax is coming along nicely too. A couple more weeks til harvest time.
I think I’m going to try harvesting a little of my amaranth tomorrow and start some dye experiments. Look how pretty it is!
Following in @anthonyfloyd.ca’s footsteps, I chased a hummingbird around the garden tonight. I love these goofy little guys.
Gimme a sec, they’re fast! Pretty sure it’s an immature male, I saw a flash of pink at one point. There was a second one when I first got here, but it scattered and didn’t come back.
Going against the flow to get downtown was one thing but going home when “home” is the start of the spectator march? Nah. So Babysaur and I hit up pedestrianized Granville St and are now at a playground and this day is just perfect.
Conveniently, my surgery coincides with summer vacation so Babysaur and I made a quick trip to JJ Bean. I found a newspaper open to the events listing and was excited to see Bard on the Beach is doing Goblin Oedipus!
I maybe changed my hair color up a wee bit. I’m a pretty pretty peacock.
I dunno if this is the same as your road closures, but CoV lists these times for the ones by us (I grabbed a copy so we know when getting Babysaur to school is gonna be rough.)
Took a natural dye class today with Earthand Gleaners, am stoked at our gorgeous yellows. Dye plants were tansy and goldenrod, on one white sheep and one grey sheep.
Maybe the somewhat dodgier neighbourhood wasn’t the right one to run the spectator march through? Can’t block traffic for the Yaletown bourgeoisie though.
Spent an hour or so on the roof reading to my flax and wandering around with my drop spindle. Being able to spin anywhere is such a nice advantage to spindles. Also telling a little boy about where string comes from was fun.
Welp I have speared myself hard enough to draw blood three times today so maybe we call it for now and come back when we are less tired.
Had a conversation with my garden neighbour today, he heard that I was growing flax (I’m famous!) and was asking about the process to get it to linen and I start talking about drying the stalks, and then retting the dried stalks in water and all I can think is “dry the wets, then wet the drys”.
Proof. Well, sort of. Hard to ID me, but I promise the one in the back is me, 20 odd years ago.
I had to go downtown because for some reason ups delivered a package to the ups downtown instead of the one a block from home. Ok, well I did want to stop by the Junction Market thing near waterfront, a yarn dyer I know has a booth there all summer. Anyway long story short I bought a hat.
My flax is coming up! I am so tickled. I have always marveled that I can make food out of dirt, now I am marveling that I can make string out of dirt.
Do I need to make knit jewelry in chain, as a person who virtually never wears jewelry? Absolutely not. But is it a fun little mini hyperfocus to distract from the horrors? You know it.
Ooh! I have one from Spin In Public Day last year! This was at an event hosted by Earthand Gleaners in Vancouver, Canada.
