I'll always remember Sam Neill because of Merlin, which I watched so often as a kid that my mom convinced the video rental place to sell us the VHS. RIP.
It's hard to find good passages to share without spoiling anything, but here are a couple examples of world building + humor
I blew through The Raven Scholar in less than a day bc I loved it so much. It's high fantasy that sucks you in with competing animal deities, a bloody path to an emperor's throne, and a refreshingly different and satisfying romance (I'm p sick of romantasy ETL). Gutting AND funny? No notes. #bookrec
Two completely normal, functional adults from Bird and Bayonet #reylosss
This is exactly how I explained Taylor's book to my husband when I picked it up this weekend!
If all the Artemis space photography has got you hyped, I recommend browsing NASA for some of the recent James Webb photos or older Hubble pics. I recently bought a print of this pic of the Cat's Eye Nebula so I can stare at its beauty when I'm overwhelmed and need to put things in perspective.
I've been going through my old fic drafts and why does this intro go for the jugular 😭
The original cover has more spark and joy than anywhere in this cover designer's heart!
If you need some cozy Lovecraftian horror to get you through these times, Dredge is my current favorite game. Upgrade your boat, explore biomes, evade those pesky glowing eyeballs that close in at night. I love jetting around this little world 🎣
I just reposted Al*x Harrow, and fwiw she's a great author as well as politically active. I just finished The Everlasting, which asks what would happen if a government manipulated its own mythology via time travel to create a more militant country. Features a butch lady knight & her scholar lover 🗡️
Objectively I don't need this book, but subjectively my fanfic will be .000085% better if I can write one historically accurate sentence about rain.
ANYWAY I was just reading some Borgias fanfic last night/planning a rewatch and wondering why Cesare looked so familiar. This is your PSA to watch Borgias if you want a VERY satisfying dark romance.
François Arnaud, the range that you have 😮💨 (gazing lovingly while hot)
Me listening to "All the Things You Said" in ep.4 of #heatedrivalry like that wasn't the most listened to song on my ipod back in HS
Riccardo Federici isn't on bsky and neither is Mondo, but this #LotR print set is so fucking cool and my fellow nerds/artists should see it! (link for details and not just screen grabs mondoshop.com/collections/...)
I just finished Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay and it's a fantastic read if you like high fantasy. It's dense in the best possible way: characters who are confused by their own reactions, nuanced takes on love and trauma and tyranny. Dianora has my whole heart and I can't stop thinking about her Dive.
My fic "It Being Late..." pulls a lot from my life during that time period, including the part about SNAP. This scene has always been near and dear to me because I really had to navigate it with my then-bf.
A few more chapters along in my Bird & Bayonet re-read (#B&BReread looks like I'm terribly misspelling "bread") and I'm enjoying the early tension between Rey and Ren. I just wanna shout at her "YOU'RE GONNA KISS THOSE LIPS"
Ch. 1 Review: I still like this intro! There are definitely some loose ends I'll need to tidy away once everything's over (Maz, Rey's motivation for being in the army), but I like the vibes of this whole first encounter.
I wrote this intro in 2020 and 5 years later Kylo has only touched Rey's butt 🙃
