I have written to our new Foreign Secretary requesting we meet to discuss the case of my constituent, Jagtar Singh Johal, urging his release be treated as a priority. This is the 9th Foreign Secretary since Jagtar's imprisonment. I want to work together to secure his release without further delay.
I have signed Early Day Motion 502, tabled by my Labour colleague @bellribeiroaddy.bsky.social, calling on the UK Government to raise the protection, access & safety of the Tent of Nations Nassar Family Farm in the occupied West Bank, with the Israeli authorities. edm.parliament.uk/early-day-mo...
Take a look at some of what I've been doing this week as your MP, including advocating for further investment in West Dunbartonshire, and signing a cross-party letter urging the Government to impose sanctions, and ban all trade & arms transfers with Israel📝
The SNP Scottish Government have still not presented an equivalent to the Places of Worship Renewal Fund, despite receiving the funding to do so from UK Government. I signed a letter requesting clarity on what support they will provide to Scottish parishes so they can also access this vital funding.
🎆🚨FIREWORKS - MAJOR UPDATE!🚨🎆 After sharing the horrific scenes at Dalmuir and across West Dunbartonshire this past Bonfire Night with my government colleagues, Labour have launched the biggest review and consultation into fireworks legislation! Have your say below: www.gov.uk/government/c...
Today at Scotland Questions, I continued to advocate for further investment in West Dunbartonshire, highlighting the incredible economic potential we have here in the former ExxonMobil site in Bowling. This would bring highly skilled, well-paid, good jobs to West Dunbartonshire.
I have signed a joint cross-party letter to the Foreign Secretary urging the Government to act now in line with the ICJ's ruling on Israel. 2 years on, Israel has only deepened its illegal occupation. We must impose sanctions, and ban all trade & arms transfers with Israel now.
I am pleased to have been elected as Vice Chair and Officer of the new APPG for Blood Cancer at its inaugural meeting last week. I am looking forward to getting started on our workplan to ensure the needs of people with blood cancer are firmly at the top of the agenda.
🚨UPDATE - KILBOWIE RD RESURFACING I am in regular contact with West Dunbartonshire Council regarding the poor condition of Kilbowie Road. I've received an update that full resurfacing is now due to commence in October. I will continue to follow this closely & provide updates.
Great to meet Lesley, one of the wonderful @cancerresearchuk.org ambassadors, in Parliament to hear about her inspiring story and how she uses her own experiences to give other cancer patients hope and spread awareness. We must act now to accelerate breakthroughs for people affected by cancer.
Many constituents contacted me regarding proposed changes to payments made to Coastguard Rescue Officers. The Minister has confirmed he's pausing the process and planned consultation events while the Government assesses next steps. I will continue to follow this closely and provide updates.
⚽️Delighted to meet with @movemberuk.bsky.social in Parliament this week to discuss men's mental health & support the Extra Time with Dads campaign, calling for better paternity leave.
🩷Great to meet with Asda in Parliament this week to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tickled Pink, raising over £100 million to support people affected by breast cancer since 1996! We must continue to work together to increase awareness in order to improve outcomes, and ensure earlier diagnoses.
🚨It has come to my attention that the escalators at our Clyde Shopping Centre are once again, not working. I contacted Centre Management who confirmed that this is unrelated to previous issues and that the escalators are scheduled to be repaired and operational again by the 23rd of July.
Proud to be wearing my St. Patrick's FPFC tie in Parliament today at Deputy PMQs!⚽️💚 Bringing a wee piece of Dumbarton to Westminster👔
Today I highlighted the UK Labour Government’s achievements over our first 2 years and the change delivered to West Dunbartonshire: 💷£1.5million Pride in Place Impact Funding ✅A brand-new youth hub 📈2,500+ workers received NMW rise 👷♂️Greater rights at work 👶2,000+ children lifted out of poverty 1/2
I continue to receive enquiries daily from constituents in West Dunbartonshire who are waiting months on end to receive their Capita civil service pensions. I asked the Minister when my constituents, who have worked so hard in the Civil Service, can expect to receive their pensions.
My July newsletter is officially live!🗞️ Read to find out about my work this month as your MP, including visiting the final recipients of UK Government Pride in Place Impact Funding, as well as local primary and secondary schools.

New research from Sky shows that in West Dunbartonshire, girls play 27% less sport than boys. Investing in opportunities and removing barriers helps young people reach their full potential. I fully support Sky’s work to improve access, visibility and opportunity for girls in sport.
💙☕️I was honoured to attend @cag-asbestos.bsky.social Coffee Morning for Action Mesothelioma Day today and lay a wreath in memory of those who have lost their lives to mesothelioma. I provided an update on my ongoing work to amend the 2006 Compensation Act to include asbestos-related lung cancer.

At the debate on HMRC guidance & remuneration of coastguard volunteers, I highlighted that the removal of coastguards' small allowance will make it harder to recruit volunteers, especially for new teams like the Clydebank Coastguard Rescue Team. The Government must urgently review before September.
The trustees, volunteers, staff and members saved our golf course. Over the last year, thanks to their determination and dedication, the course was transformed and now the future of @dalmuirgolfcourse.bsky.social is secure - heroic volunteers!⛳️ My thanks to all.
