and again, i wanna emphasize that my personal point of contention is that what is seemingly the straw that breaks the camel's back for most ppl is misappropriation of a word/subculture that is, as far as i can tell, predominantly white in its origins and its audience. meanwhile AAVE and Black culture has been fair game for the entire internet to strip for parts for going on well over a decade and a half now, but i'm not seeing anywhere near as many folk keeping the same energy for that. to be frank i just find the hypocrisy insulting

i could be REALLY mean and say the most likely reasoning i can find for ppl taking issue with "larper (derogatory)" specifically is bc internet culture by and large has allowed the once commonly persecuted irl nerd subculture to be seamlessly assimilated into it, and now that this niche sect of said subculture is being used as a pejorative, it's reopening an old wound, so to speak

thoughts on AI in video games and also saying the quiet part out loud re: the economy

not that i think so highly of myself that i feel that folks need "my take" on this recent wave of game companies injecting AI into their products wherever they see fit, but i still firmly believe that this is all a bubble that is a year, if not mere months, away from bursting. i sincerely doubt we'll need to worry about any game studio with an ounce of self respect being caught making AI slop by 2030

if you ask me what *i* think is going on, it's one of two things:
1) game companies who drank the AI kool-aid and have been loud and proud are starting to see the writing on the wall, especially now that the big dogs like openAI and anthropic are starting to show cracks in the foundation, and are shitting their pants in terror and pushing out as much of their half baked products as they can before this market gets thanos snapped into oblivion

2) kind of a subsection of 1. but it would not surprise me in the slightest if some of these companies pushing out AI products made private deals with AI startups back in 2022-23 in exhange for funding when this was not-widely-accepted-but-not-as-outwardly-abhorred-by-the-general-public and were contractually bound to use it and now said AI brokers are going through #1 and bringing it on even faster

long story short is this shit fuckin sucks and you hate to see it, but if there's a silver lining to all this i really don't think this is going to be Forever, and i think the light at the end of the tunnel is much closer than we all think. unfortunately there is the giant elephant in the room which is the entire global economy imploding with the AI bubble and probably bringing about the second great depression (that is of you don't yet believe we're already in it) but let's not think about that right now 😃
