Scholar of Fortune @History Department - Ghent University. Everything you wanted to know about The Fall of Rome but were afraid to ask. Gallivanter extraordinaire. Italophile. Homeric Laughter.
Finally seen The Libertines live. Very messy set in the beginning, but by the end pure bliss with 'Can't stand me now' and 'Don't look back'. Shame they didn't play 'Gunga Din' though. And yeah, Doherty is still his mischievous self.
Apparently this needs clarification, even though it was meant as a harmless joke. Had no idea this would spread faster than wildfire, and turn some people to behaviour I'd associate with X-Twitter. This is _not_ an official Hollywood poster, but some fan-made poster. As pointed out hours ago:
I already responded to that jokingly an hour ago (ditto on FB), to literally the first poster who called it out. Had no idea this would blow up as it did.
I am once again begging Hollywood to stop using the Greek alphabet for an Ancient World movie, if they can't afford to even throw a couple of quid at anyone with an inkling of the language. Unless they really think audiences are dying to see THS THDPSSSSPS
Congrats Spain. Now take this all the way, just like you did two years ago.
PPS: First time ever closing the Old Bar at Leeds Uni at 3am. These two Belgians were the last people in the bar. Our gratitude to the staff is immense.
My most restrained book raid at @imc-leeds.bsky.social in years. (Though better not to do the tally with booty gathered from the conference bonanza last month).
Couldn't have imagined ending our day on a better note.
On the train back from @imc-leeds.bsky.social. Yesterday we had full-day programme in memory of Walter Goffart. Four sessions plus roundtable, 9h-20h. Last one was truly the climax of a great day, with reflections by Danuta Renu Shanzer, Walter Pohl, Michael Kulikowski & @realhistoryguy.bsky.social
It's finally happened l. After all these years, I got to catch up with @rhigarthjones.bsky.social in real life!
Also great to see @writinghelena.bsky.social new monumental work on Rome on display.
