So now you’re living in the Projects?
Congratulations, you have a home. A few points to remember for Those Times

1. You live in the fucking projects; most of the people here have Trauma. Many struggle with executive decision. Shaming them for it isn’t helping anyone. Don’t take any shit but OTOH try to give your neighbors grace.

2. there are going to be homophobic, transphobic, racist shitbags. Don’t take ANY grief from them. Remember, bullies crumble 99% of the time when confronted. Half the time it’s just uninformed ignorant lashing out – they’re being an asshole but only -incidentally- racist, transphobic or whatnot. Still doesn’t mean you take shit from them. Just recognize the difference between an active actual threat problem and someone with less accurate life experience having a shitty day. You will need the energy saved to deal with real problems.
3. No, I don’t know why it seems like ‘VERYONE around you has a big screen tv, six video game consoles and is obviously gaming the system. This is an almost universal phenomenon of living in the projects – thinking everyone else is better off.
That’s poverty thinking. The uncomfortable reality is that you have neighbors who jealously horde what little they have and don’t want to talk to people they don’t know...just like you.
No matter what, you have more common cause with the other poor people struggling in the building you live in than almost any other demographic on the planet. Almost everyone trying to tell you different has an agenda and that agenda does not involve getting you and the rest of us po folk out of the ghetto.

4. yes social services are on some level always designed to fuck you; however, many good people (sometimes) are in the system – almost always those from the same background you have. A civil servant who GAF is priceless. Cherish them.
But there are most definitely bullies in social services as well. So when it seems like someone is fucking with you...complain…
