Great day in Southport for the Angels of Mons exhibition at the Atkinson and the Arthur Machen event at the Bijou Theatre. Excellent job from @nunkie.bsky.social as compere and reader. Lovely to meet fellow Friends of the Arthur Machen Society. Thanks to the organisers.
Brilliant show by @nunkie.bsky.social tonight - Hide, Watson! - two tales of Sherlock Holmes. Great performance and clever and amusing changes to the source material. Highly recommended!
Just back from hols so I am probably the last person to receive the (slightly bigger) Summer #SherlockHolmes Journal, despite co-editing it! Anyway, I hope you have all received your copies and are enjoying it. Thanks as ever to our amazing contributors.
The Winter 2025 Sherlock Holmes Journal is back from the press and winging its way to subscribers. Topics include early Croatian translations (check out that cover!), fingerprints, the real Moran, and more. Thanks to all our wonderful contributors and, of course, our readers.
Half way through and this is damned good - cracking script and performances
@bigfinish.bsky.social's new Sherlock Holmes series, Sherlock Holmes Untold, is an entertaining romp through the missing adventures. You can hear me chatting to other Sherlockians about it in their their podcast www.bigfinish.com/podcasts but don't let that put you off buying it.
The Summer Sherlock Holmes Journal is hitting doorsteps. It’s my first issue as editor since taking over from the inestimable Roger Johnson earlier this year. Thanks to @acdsociety.bsky.social, Ron Levitsky, Daniel Friedman, @canadianholmes.bsky.social and @221bcooee.bsky.social
It was an absolute pleasure to attend and speak at the Sherlock Holmes Society of London annual dinner in the House of Commons yesterday evening. Lovely to meet @andrewfinkel.bsky.social who gave a fascinating talk and to meet so many Sherlockians I have only encountered online.
Great event to celebrate 40 years of Granada’s #sherlockholmes at Riverside today. Lovely to talk at length to Esther Dean, costume designer, who did so much to shape the look of the series. Thank you to the organisers. Only sorry I had to race off for my train!
In 1899, the excellently named "Gertrude Bacon" asked celebrities to draw pigs blindfolded for The Strand Magazine. Points for Lord Roberts and Walter Besant, wooden spoons for Conan Doyle and Henry Irving and nul point for Tenniel who clearly cheated.
Rewatching the excellent 1925 ‘The Lost World’ as prep for the next @doingsofdoyle.bsky.social podcast and really wish this dude had been one of the party…
"The showrunner comes to you asking for a script for a #DoctorWho anniversary special. They want a multi Doctor story, you need: 💙 A Doctor 💙 Another Doctor 💙 An extra companion 💙 A villain"
Very much enjoyed @patersonjoseph.bsky.social’s ‘Sancho and Me’ at York Theatre Royal last night. An inventive fusion of two lives and a very entertaining and uplifting evening. The book is well worth picking up too. I would love to have the time to return to my anti-slavery research but alas…
