The historic Hillsborough Law was passed today, and an electric speech from Andy Burnham MP summed up the mood. Clip:
It was a great to start the day meeting with the Chief Executive of Sainsbury's, Simon Roberts, to discuss the importance of government, food producers, and retailers working together to keep food affordable for everyone.
It was moving to take part in a silent vigil organised by the Lobular Moon Shot Project to, once again, raise awareness of the urgent need for greater investment in treatments for lobular breast cancer.
Today in Parliament, the Home Secretary will make a statement on the death of Ann Widdecombe. The schedule is always hard to predict, but it will happen around 4:30pm. You should be able to watch it on BBC Parliament. I have shared the running order.
Today is the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide. I joined with others this week in remembering the thousands of people murdered by Bosnian Serb forces in a UN‑declared “safe area” during the Bosnian War, the worst atrocity in Europe since World War II.
I got lost in the fog after Oriam Parkrun and ended up having my breakfast at Balerno Farmers Market. 😉😋

It was great to start my day by meeting with Rob and Tommo from the South Sub project (Tram Trains for Edinburgh - www.ttfe.org.uk) to discuss how Edinburgh South West could benefit from the reopening of this iconic railway service.
It was great to pay a visit to Heathrow Airport today, and get a chance to meet the staff that make it all work! This was "push back".
I'm in the Evening News today calling on the Scottish Government to clear up the uncertainty associated with AI Data Centre planning applications. Story here: www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/edinbur...
My day in Parliament starts at Heathrow Airport.
What an amazing two years for someone who did not even expect to get elected! Story: www.holyrood.com/news/view,sc...
I'm incredibly honoured to have been named Scottish MP of the Year for my work on my Rare Cancers Act. A huge thank you to Holyrood Magazine for organising such a fantastic event, and to the Scotch Whisky Association for sponsoring the award. Many thanks to everyone who made the Act possible!
Over the spring, hedges etc have flourished across Edinburgh South West. Please check that your hedge is not causing a problem. If you spot a hedge or tree that is causing an obstruction or safety concern, you can report it to the Council using this link: www.edinburgh.gov.uk/parks-open-s...
It was lovely to attend Samarpana 2026 in Dalry a week or two ago. It was a fantastic celebration of Indian classical dance and culture, and featured fantastic performances from a range of ages. Well done to Ahalya Dance Academy for hosting it.
Look out for Claudea and Zeus when they visit Colinton Cenotaph & Currie War Memorial: www.deadlinenews.co.uk/2026/07/03/w...
Well done to Emilia - This is a great review of what Hailes Quarry junior parkrun is really like when you are 10! Many thanks to C&B News for sharing it.
I now have the last of the images from the Alistair Darling Scholarship Programme work experience week we ran last week. Once again, and for one final time, I want to thank Lumo for making the trip possible through their generous support.
Best seat on the bus! #Edinburgh
This article highlights that this problem has many dimensions, and many non-trivial impacts. From: Cycling Scotland: Tackling supercharged e-bikes – mopeds in disguise – is now a road safety priority share.google/AcS7vINqJsQ3...
The funding profile for the Defence Investment Plan is linked below. I've asked about the impact on Scotland, not least how much of the surge in funding will be spent here. See - www.gov.uk/government/p...
The number of cases of breast cancer in women under 50 has risen by 5% in 1 year. I hope to take part in a debate on this petition today - it asks that breast cancer screening starts at 40. In Scotland, some women don't get their first invitation until they are 53. See: www.itv.com/news/2026-06...
Only in Edinburgh South West - The start of Hailes Quarry Junior Parkrun
Private Scott Arthur ready for action - Putin will be terrified if he sees this image! It was fantastic weather for the Passion4Fusion Culture Connect Festival today in Saughton Park. I had a really good chat with the army recruitment team there, and thanked them for their service.
