Suikoden. While I'll admit that the 2nd game is the better game, the 1st installment is my favourite game by far. The premise, the artwork, the music, the characters, the combat, the magic system... Perfection. I always recommend playing 1 and 2 in succesion. I can't love this game enough.

Playing Suikoden 5, and picked up on a subtle reference to a character from Suikoden 1. Shoon tells of a gladiator so strong, his masters "had his eyes put out" so that he'd be beatable in the ring. Even without his sight, he remained a threat. Later, he was sold before appearing in S1. Morgan.
