Edible Reading
@ediblereading
Reading's only restaurant blog, as featured in the Sunday Times and the Mail On Sunday. New reviews on Fridays at 12pm.
In case you missed it on Friday, the new blog post is a brand new, almost-exhaustive guide to the best food and drink in Bruges, a stunning city that has a lot going on beneath its picture-perfect surface. Hope you enjoy! ediblereading.com/2026/07/17/c...
No new post up on the blog yesterday, as I’m working on a labour of love: my expanded, brand new, verging on definitive guide to eating and drinking in Bruges. Comes out next Friday, and hopefully worth the wait.
Coming up next on the blog, as close to a definitive city guide to Bruges food and drink as you're likely to find in 2026. Plenty of work, but hopefully rewards for plenty of travellers, given that the current guide has been seen by over 35,000 people worldwide.
NEW REVIEW! This week we cover food trends, food in pubs and rotisserie chicken, with guest appearances from Jason Lee and Reading University’s biggest transphobe. Plenty to pick the bones out of - hope you enjoy it! ediblereading.com/2026/05/01/p...
One more plug for the new review - a celebration of friendship, French food and... perfume shopping? at Bristol's Lapin: ediblereading.com/2025/05/30/r...
My archive post today is of one of Reading’s best places for al fresco beer and food. On a day like today, it would be a perfect place to go after work. Yesterday, though, I slummed it in the garden with this and a delivery from Dough Bros. #rdguk ediblereading.com/2022/04/29/p...
Following its soft launch yesterday, Amo is open opposite Jackson’s Corner. Pizza available by the slice, and very nice it looks too. (I won’t review it in the first month, though, as usual.) #rdguk
The new ER post is all about the joys of holidaying at home, in and around Reading. Hopefully it will give you some food for thought! #rdguk ediblereading.com/2025/04/18/f...
The twenty-third readers’ lunch at the Moderation was an absolutely fantastic day all round. And my god, the food. #rdguk
A lovely dinner on Saturday at the Bell at Waltham St Lawrence. Not bad going given that there are only four main courses on the menu and they told us minutes after arriving that they’d sold out of my Plan A and Plan B. My review, from last summer, is here: ediblereading.com/2024/09/20/p...
Finally, in 2025, made it to the Loddon tap room in Dunsden Green on Friday for some enjoyable al fresco pints and a more than half decent fish and chips. Summer is coming. #rdguk
I was meant to be in Bristol this week on a relaxing break, trying out new restaurants and getting some reviews sorted. But plans changed, so now it’s a proper staycation. Nothing for it but to have the best of Reading instead. #rdguk
Reading news: the Food Court, that funny little burger and noodle place opposite the Broad Street Mall, looks like it has been closed for a very long time but still has a sign up which looks like it's putting a brave face on things. #rdguk
Great to see Reading’s very own Geo Café gracing the cover of Observer Food Monthly. #rdguk
Another enormously successful readers' lunch at the brilliant Kamal's Kitchen. #rdguk
Some of the gastronomic highlights of the first couple of days in Bruges.
So far Bruges is doing its regular thing of being properly lovely.
NEW POST! As is traditional, it's my annual look back on the year. It also contains some news about possible changes to the blog in the New Year and, more importantly, my heartfelt thanks to all of you for reading my stuff. Hope you enjoy it: ediblereading.com/2024/12/20/2... #rdguk
Cannot wait for my holiday in a couple of weeks - can't believe it's over 10 years since I last visited beautiful Lisbon.
A walk to the hospital involves passing through one of Reading’s most beautiful streets.
It still feels weird plugging my writing on here, but here goes: if you want to read a restaurant review that’s also about how food makes communities better places, and also talks about the unexpected joys of eating with strangers, this might be for you. ediblereading.com/2024/08/09/r...
Truly joyous chicken satay and peanut sauce at the Moderation. One last plug for the brand new ER review: ediblereading.com/2024/04/19/p... #rdguk
One last plug this weekend for the new ER review - some really accomplished cooking at The Plough: ediblereading.com/2024/04/12/p...
The new ER post gives a comprehensive, updated guide to the very best places to eat in Ghent - a fascinating city easily reachable on the Eurostar. Hope you like it! ediblereading.com/2024/04/05/c...
NEW POST! A bumper two for one deal today with a practically brand new guide to the food and drink delights of both Bruges *and* Ghent. Really hope you like this, and/or it comes in handy: ediblereading.com/2024/04/05/c...
The response to this week’s review has been fantastic. It’s a trip to Oxford this time, and a restaurant that’s been feeding me - and some of you, by the sounds of it - for decades: ediblereading.com/2024/03/15/r...
